- ROOMS: We had an ocean view suite which was a good size with a full kitchen...although why would one ever need that in an all-inclusive resort? The deck was large and had a nice view of the ocean and main pool area. The room and furnishings are very dated (circa 1980's??). Bed was comfortable. Fridge not fully stocked each day, which it is supposed to be.
- FOOD: The buffet restaurant near the beach was decent for breakfast and lunch. Standard buffet fair, not a great selection and it didn't change much from day to day. There were a couple of other restaurants on the resort that you could make reservations for. We went to Andrea Restaurant for dinner on our first night. Service was great, but the food was bland and did not appeal to either my wife or me.We ended up just having a nice walk (10-15 mins) to Marina Vallarta the remaining nights for great food at reasonable prices. We would take a cab back for 50 pesos (about $3.00 Canadian).
- POOL(s) and GROUNDS: There were 3 pools. The pools were very nice. The problem we found was that apparently one of them is supposed to be adults only (quiet pool), but there certainly wasn't one during our stay. Maybe they just don't enforce it. The grounds are very lush and well maintained.
- BARS/ENTERTAINMENT: This was REALLY SUB-PAR compared to any other all inclusive resorts we have ever stayed at and we have stayed at many. There was only really one bar and that was the pool bar. The hotel tries to pass off the hotel lobby as a bar...but there is no bar to be seen. You just grab a table in the LOBBY and someone will provide table service. It's kind of awkward. At night, they cordon off a portion of the lobby/"bar" for entertainment (dancing/casino night or whatever the case me be). There is no theater per say. When we booked our trip we saw the comments about this, but we really didn't understand how inadequate the on resort adult options (bars/restaurants etc) were until we arrived.

So overall, if you are travelling as a couple I would recommend looking at other all-inclusive options in the area. This resort just doesn't provide the value for your dollar in comparison to other all-inclusive resorts. Or stay at a nice hotel that isn't all-inclusive and then explore all the excellent (and inexpensive) dining options in the area.

Thank you very much, David, for deciding to reserve with us at Velas Vallarta after searching through the reviews of our prior guests. And an extra thank you for sharing with us your perceptions of the experience.

The resort was inaugurated in 1990, and since then we have incorporated many additions and improvements to our facilities as well as many new services and products. Those 28 years of success also include invaluable experience, as our competitors over the years have tried to copy our style of hospitality, as well as work to entice many of our seasoned employees to their companies, but thankfully, the vast majority prefer to remain with us at Velas.

As for being overpriced, well, everything has to be judged in perspective. I do respect and appreciate your point of view, and agree that Velas is not a typical, economical choice. There definitely are other hotels that are cheaper on paper, but what many do to compensate for their low rates is to employ upselling campaigns once the guest has arrived. At Velas, other than if a guest wishes a larger suite, there are no extra charges, for example, to have additional items placed in your minibar. Nor do we set a service charge to enjoy our room service as other hotels have implemented in their "included" services. If a guest desires to dine in their suite with a bottle of table wine, it is there, or a pizza and six-pack at 2am, no problem, no service charge. Our success has always been to keep the product/service guest friendly, without any surprise costs revealed upon check-out.

As director of the property for 25 of our 28 years, I truly know our many strengths, and also the areas that can be improved. And we try to do different events in our lobby despite the limits on space, but I am confident that we are maximizing our assets as best as possible.

Again, David, I sincerely thank you for sharing your observations. I genuinely do appreciate your perspective and constructive feedback as it is presented, and please know that my team and I will gladly go to great lengths to repair any shortfalls along the way. But I hope that sometime in the future you can return to Velas Vallarta with the knowledge of who we are, and what we have, and perhaps to not judge so much on what you want us to be.

Thank you, sir, I wish you all the best for your future travels.

Although only 5-10 minutes from airport once there you are away from it all.
Beach is excellent to walk, run, swim or snooze. Service is right on and even beach vendors let you be. Jet ski, parasail, excursions all there if you want or do nothing and relax. I am avid golfer and can walk to Marinas, excellent course with crocs on the banks of the creeks. Also, great 36 hole facility, Vista Vallarta only 20-30 minutes taxi 185 pesos (17/$) away. Highly recommended vacation!! -We did all inclusive but not necessary if will be looking to leave and eat/drink elsewhere. Make sure to have the French toast!!

Room tip: Higher floors better views of sea.

Velas vallarta provided our family with the most perfect holiday. The staff and quality of service is incredible. Each person tries so hard to make your vacation special. The food is wonderful, the kids and adult activities are great!

Starting with outstanding yoga every morning at the beach with Javier for me and my daughter. The view for breakfast was amazing. The omelet staff Elibet & Sandra remembered my special order every day and went way out of their way to make it perfect. The beach restaurant staff Demetrios, Jovani, Ernesto Neermisas and Daniel never let me carry my own plate and helped make my 4 year old sons birthday so special. The kids club has great organized activities and Osmar & Christain organized the most most amazing party for my sons birthday!
The food was outstanding! The front desk service with Cindy and others was beyond wonderful. Tennis with Luis was so fun!
The beach is wonderful here and so are the pools.
We were a family of 15 travelling together and specifically my family of 3 kids and 2 all loved It! Thank you for everything !

Nicole, I cannot thank you enough for entrusting Velas Vallarta to deliver such an "Amazing Vacation," thanks in large part to our genuine hospitality and friendly service.

The many names that you kindly highlight are those of our young women and men who in essence, work in distinct areas. Those mentioned are from the kitchen and wait staff, reception desk, and activities team. There are many of their colleagues that have subscribed to our natural form of service and happiness. And that genuine trait is passed along to you and all the valued guests that honor us with their presence. Because after all, you; the guest, is the primary reason that we are here.

Thank you, Nicole, for sharing with the world your great delight on this magical experience. I hope that your four-year-old son takes with him the warm memories of his birthday, and entices you and your husband to return next year to be with his newfound friends here at Velas Vallarta. Until next time, our fondest wishes go out to your large family and all our good friends in Toronto, Ontario. Happy Birthday!

We had an amazing visit to Velas Vallarta - everything from top to bottom was very impressive! The checkin was the most professional we have seen in over 15 years of traveling to Mexico - both the front desk and the bellman were amazing - pointing out the excellent features of the hotel. All staff we encountered were incredibly friendly and professional! The resort itself was beautiful - mature landscaping, immaculately maintained - even though this resort is not newer, we would pick this over something newer - the gorgeous gardens, koi ponds, peacocks were so well cared for and obviously loved. Every we saw took immense pride in their work and it showed! The food and drinks were excellent - we were blown away by passed snacks and popsicles at the pool. Our all inclusive even included room service with a full bottle of wine - wow! Everything felt warm, luxurious and welcoming! We would recommend this resort without reservation and would hope to go back soon! Our kids had the time of their life!

Lesa, we couldn't be happier knowing that you found your Velas vacation experience to be very “Amazing,” and that you were “blown away” by the various extras that you found along the way as guests of ours.

One of the true benefits of Velas Vallarta is its people. The invaluable experience that we have gained over the years helps us realize just how much first impression count. We know that the first impression is never forgotten, whether it be a positive or a negative one. That is why you enjoyed the “most professional” check-in in fifteen years of vacationing in this wonderful country, and once you were nicely accommodated, the rest of the stay was a marvelous delight.

Thank you, Lesa, for sharing some interesting points about your Velas experience. Your review will serve to motivate, even more, our professional and friendly staff the loves to serve. We look forward to repeating these wonderful moments with your lovely family many times again.

My wife and I spent a week at Velas Vallarta just now. We had a fantastic time: our room was a suite in building 3 and our balcony had a great view of the pools and the ocean. We spent mornings and some of the afternoons on the beach, some of the afternoons on our balcony (in the shade - peak of afternoon sun was too much for us), evenings back on the beach for sunsets. All the staff were extremely warm and friendly. The grounds are extraordinarily beautiful, kudos to the groundskeepers. The food and drinks were good - not Zagat top tier material - but we didn't go to Puerto Vallarta for that (from New York, a city with some good restaurants). Certainly nothing was bad. But we went to Mexico for the sunshine, the warmth, and the ocean. We had never been to Puerto Vallarta and are already thinking that we want to go back to Velas Vallarta next year. It was PARADISE. And one other thing: we made the trip through Delta Vacations. That was a great option for us. Next year, we might not have the frequent flyer miles to do it, but we would go back without it - we just fell in love with the place. There is something beautifully warm and soft about the sunlight in the hour before sunset - just amazing, Oh and one other thing: the resort is not far from the airport. We were concerned that we would be disturbed by air traffic - but that was not at all the case.

Ben, thank you so much for selecting Velas Vallarta as the setting for your first sample of Puerto Vallarta and all the natural wonders that it is blessed with.

Puerto Vallarta is indeed a unique option when visiting Mexico. It really is the only destination where the town is nestled between the majestic Sierra Madre Mountain Range and the prestigious Pacific Ocean. Add to that natural splendor, the friendly and humble people of the region and it is no wonder that you came away from this vacation feeling like you finally found your comfortable, and safe go-to place for next year.

Thank you so much, sir, for sharing your warm fascination for Puerto Vallarta and of course, Velas Vallarta. Having the tropics right inside your hotel just adds to the beautiful and fulfilling feeling of being in paradise. Until next year, we wish you and all our good friends in New York State a happy and prosperous 2018. Thank you!
