The grounds are pretty, the rooms feel dated but are functional and have AC. No coffeemakers in rooms. There is a nice selection of quality souvenir items for purchase in the lobby.

My friend arranged for the room, and I was surprised to learn that the price was about twice what I expected. The restaurant was the draw, and was disappointing. My friend had a steak in sauce that she said tasted like a Knorr's seasoning packet. I had chicken in peanut mole on rice that I think was minute rice. The chicken was not cooked in the mole, which was mediocre anyway (note that I live in Los Angeles where we probably have the best Oaxaca food outside Oaxaca, so my standards are high). I suspect that there are better hotel deals to be had in San Blas, but if you stay here go find yourself some pescado zaredeando and skip the restaurant

The hotel is dated but everything was clean and functional. The gardens are ample and lovely in their tropical splendor. The restaurant is outstanding, we enjoyed an excellent dinner and breakfast. The elderly lady at the reception was equally unfriendly at our arrival and departure and was really the only negative on our stay. The mosquitoes in June were voracious quite impressive really.

We were very pleased and very impressed by this hotel and its friendly staff, on our visit in mid-January of this year. The grounds are park-like and private with beautiful trees and landscaping. The unit we were in was quite comfortable, classy, and so solidly constructed, with a very spacious living area, bath and shower. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet with its thick walls. The staff was most helpful and knowledgeable. Josephina arranged a ride from the PV airport to San Blas with Juan Martinez, an excellent driver, since our flight into PVR arrived too late for a bus. The front desk hostess, Josephina Vazquez, and her sister Betty, head of the restaurant, were helpful in all other arrangements, including delicious box lunches prepared to be picked up very early morning. They appreciate and can help to arrange the remarkable birding opportunities in the area. In fact the name of the hotel is the Spanish name for the Boat-billed heron. Highly recommend!

Passed by the sign for Hotel Garza Canela on previous visits to San Blas but never before saw the property until today. On an unassuming and remote street sits this beautiful property, far more than expected.
We checked in with no hitches, having reserved the hotel room. We were three adults so had three beds in our oversized room.
While it is an older facility, it is being maintained very well. The staff is most accommodating. English spoken is excellent. Highly recommended. Will visit again.

This hotel has a fantastic restaurant and a nice swimming pool. The rooms are clean and roomy with some rooms having three queen size beds in case you have kids. Nice gardens and friendly management. An easy walk to the beach at Playa Borrego and it's many palapa restaurants.
