Our family lives further south in Nayarit and we went up to Matanchen Bay for a quick overnight surf trip with our kids. We were lucky to be able to book Ken & Sheila's bungalows on short notice. We didn't meet Sheila, who was out of town, but Ken was incredibly friendly and attentive to all of our needs (and patient with our kids and neurotic dog). The rooms were impeccably clean with everything in good working order (we had one snafu with hot water, to which Ken and Chichi immediately attended). The mattresses were super comfortable, ceiling fans provided plenty of ventilation, and sheets and towels were nice. There was gated parking and the property was very secure.
This is not a fancy property and they also do not serve breakfast anymore. But if you are looking for somewhere friendly, extremely clean, and very reasonably priced, then definitely stay here.
The property has direct beach access to a nice flat, sandy beach which is shallow with gentle waves (perfect for even the youngest kids). As other reviewers noted, there are macaws on the property, which can be noisy at times. They did not bother us as we live in Mexico and are used to roosters, chachalacas, dogs barking, prensa vehicles and other various noise-makers. They didn't seem noisy very early in the morning either, but it's worth noting that there are a few birds still there. We thought it was really neat to see them up close.
