The food is good, the service is fast and attentive, one of my favorite places and certainly one of the best russian restaurants in Mexico City

Visited this place on a Saturday in mid April 2016 (two people) for lunch. Were served Borsch, "Vinigret salad" and "Spring salad", pelmeni, vareniki, kvass and tea with Honey Cake. Borsh and Vinigret were good and could be called authentic. Spring salad, though, had nothing to do with Russian cuisine, just some sliced cucumbers and ubiquitous shredded salad leaves "lechuga" with some plain oil. The pelmeni and vareniki were OK but far not the best, definitely premade, frozen and cooked just before serving, so much so that the dough was cracked from freezing and the juices and fillings were coming out. Tea and the cake were good - first time in Mexico we were served loose leaf tea with lemon, very Russian indeed! The service was far below acceptable, there were only several clients in the restaurant but far more waiters. The waiters did not know what to do and one of them kept passing by to the table with no apparent reason; he has done that for at least 20 times while we were seated. Very annoying! The ambience was also below what you paid for: plastic/cheap decor, a cheap wallpaper "a la" Russian Cabin (Izba), toilet with the Birch tree wallpaper, hanging TVs screens showing some Russian military ballet dancing Argentinian Gaucho dances (???), overall rather tucky and tasteless atmosphere! The bill for two people came to $700 MXN ($40US) + tips, definitely overpriced for the services and the quality of the food. If you have never tried Russian food, you can try it here, but if you know what Russian food is, I would not recommend this place.

We had a very good meal at Kolobok. The service was very good and the waiter was patient with my broken Spanish. The only odd thing was that nobody appeared to speak Russian.

Russian food is not the first thing that comes to your mind where you are visiting Mexico City, however, if you live there it might be a choice for change. The restaurant is not too large, let’s say it has a “friendly” size. Dishes are well prepared and tasty, for example the ones I order: a solyanka soup made of beef, three types of ham (I couldn’t really identify the three hams), olives, pickles and cream. For main dish I had befstroganov but I remained curious about the gulyash and the kotleta, all three different preparations of beef or pork meat. Tasty, but not extraordinary.
