Great great service. From the moment we arrived our server welcomed us and helped to create a wonderful dining experience. The rest of the staff in our limited interactions were extremely friendly and professional. The ambiance was lovely. We came to DF to try all sorts of foods, which meant a lot of hole in the wall spots and street foods... which was exactly what we'd anticipated. But we also cherish a more formal (not at all stuffy or 'fancy') / traditional dining experience where we can be in a beautiful setting and be treated to a fantastic menu and service... and this place really warmed us up and hit the spot. It was unlike any other dining we did in the city (a good thing, as we enjoyed the many other eating adventures, but also a relief after lots of very very informal meals).
One of our party is a vegetarian and our server was instantly conscientious and helpful on that front, which you don't always get... so 5 stars on that front!
Wonderful cocktails. Highly highly recommend the milpa sour. The cocktails are so well-conceived and executed they're almost dangerous -- you won't realize how quickly you've caught a buzz because you'll drink them so happily!
Started with guac and our drinks; then each had an appetizer: gorditas for the veg (with the meat sauce in a cup to the side in case the other person wanted to taste) and the escamoles. All were nearly perfect. The escamoles in particular came in a delightful, hot jar filled with other treats and textures, along with a small basket of delicious, warm, perfect blue tortillas. The taste, tried for the first time, was like buttery popcorn!
Shared burnt chillies for second dish. Wow! The flavor is out of this world. Well done taking simple charred peppers, pineapple and brie and elevating them to a wonderful flavor and food experience.
Finally we ended with the hibiscus tacos and river tacos. By then we were beyond stuffed, sadly. The tacos were so delicious we had to try to finish them! Though we failed, we enjoyed what we tasted greatly. Our server insisted we try mezcal while we were there, so we each had a delicious shot each. I'm not a fan of smoky spirits but the clarity of the mezcal was so nice that it was a pleasant taste!
Our server also went out of his way to get the address from a fellow server of a pulqueria we wanted to find on our last night in DF. He drew us an awesome little map and was so happy to help us on our last minute quest to try things!
The bill was minimal compared to the experience we'd just had, which was another great surprise.
All in all, a beautiful and thoughtful establishment providing a dining experience with taste and professionalism from their staff. Well done guys and thank you for the great meal!!
Highly highly recommend.
