Buffet food is mediocre. Watery vegetables, wilting lettuce and under-ripe fruit. The food was really boring with no exciting dishes or nice ingredients. My wife and I both had upset stomachs. We had only eaten in the hotel so looks like a hygiene problems in the kitchens.
Bogaventura restaurant not as described. No asian food, nor prawns. Nicely presented, but small portions and scallops and sea bass were both tasteless.
There was poolside entertainment throughout the day – musical chairs, volley ball, bingo, catch the water balloon, etc. Constant loud nightclub music and screaming entertainment team round the pool. Nothing for older people. You get one towel and if you lose it, or the card there is a US$20 fine.
Snack bars around the pool had a good choice of snacks, but no ice cream. Food was same basic quality as the buffet. The bar gave us a coffee one afternoon. It was horrible and undrinkable – very strong with condensed milk.
The hotel is very unfriendly for disabled or elderly guests. Lots of stairs or steep ramps to get to the pool, beach or restaurants. To access the theatre from the lift you have to be taken through the kitchens!
Drinks – tried a gin and tonic and thought I was drinking meths - truly horrible! Usual local cocktails seemed OK.
Hotel massage was S$130. In Thailand $10, with much the same wages for staff. Rip off prices.
The hotel is very much aimed at the young mass market. For the price the food should be a great deal better.
On the plus side:-
Check in as always in Mexico was a bit slow, but friendly staff. Quick and efficient checkout.
Comfortable loungers – the best we had anywhere in Mexico
Shows – good – well choreographed, excellent costumes and danced with enormous energy.
Rooms clean and good facilities like the large walk-in shower. Nice soft pillows were a welcome change from the hard ones in most hotels. Rooms on the first floor have a balcony with jacuzzi.
