Easily the best hotel I've stayed in. Very clean hotel. Food was really nice and had a great selection. Staff were so friendly and could not do enough for you. If you go here you won't regret it

We arrived Mon June 27 during the storm. Check-in took 10 minutes. Even though check-in wasn't till later our room was ready at 11:00 am. We had Jr. suite overlooking the pools on 3rd floor. Great room and large patio. There was fully stocked refrigerator with Dos xx beer, Pepsi, and bottled water. Also 4 liquor bottles on the wall. There is no carpet in room which is a plus. The maid service was excellent.

There is Don Juan buffet with about anything you would want to eat. They have breakfast buffet till 10:30. There is coffee pitchers all filled. We would bring pitcher and mugs to room each morning. The rooms should have a coffee pot in them. Lunch starts at 12:00. There are three restaurants that you have to book in the lobby two days in advance. You can also just show up and wait till someone doesn't show. We did this at the steak restaurant. We only waited 10 minutes. The food was ok. We did reserve the Japanese restaurant. It was excellent. You each get 5 pieces of sushi for a appetizer. The fried ice cream for dessert was awesome.

The bars great. We never waited for a drink. The pool bar is where the action is during the day. We read complaints about watered down drinks. We never saw this. You can get extra shots in any drink. You can get pure alcohol if you want. The bartenders will fix anything you want. Luis was a great bartender we liked. The lobby bar is beautiful. You can sit in the air conditioning and drink all day. We made friends with Jaunita. She was so friendly like all the bartenders. She turned me on to Mojitos. Awesome!

There are 4 pools. The main pool by the bar is was not noisy like other reviews said. There was entertainment staff that kept things going. They were good. If you didn't like this there is another pool on the other side of building that is quiet. People do reserve lounge chairs by putting towels on them. They start giving out towels at 8:00 am. But you can always find something anyway. There are also lounge chairs at the beach that never filled up.

We didn't know what to expect after some bad reviews. It was a great trip. Some people just have different likes and dislikes. If we go back to cancun, it will be the Riu Cancun.

We took a taxi to downtown flea market. It was terrible. The vendors are like insects. They are all over you. We stayed 10 minutes, got a cab and went back to resort.

Also, Everyone takes US dollars but all change is in peso. We brought several one dollar bills for tipping, even though tipping is not required at resort. You can go there and not spend any cash. We brought a laptop computer. The only place we could get internet was close to front desk. Ours would not work at sports bar as stated. Had a good signal but would work there. We just go sit by front desk if we needed internet.

Room Tip: Get a JR. suite.

We just came back from a wonderful vacation with our family. The staff was great especially many thanks to the service staff and maids, you really work so hard. We loved the Japanese Restaurant Kawachi.

Rooms:
Room were great, with a spectacular view on theocean. The beds were ok. Anyway you dont stay in your room while you have the beach in front of you. Everyday they clean you room and of course there is also a minibar in the room.

Things to do:
There are a lot of things to do while you are in Cancun. We decided to do some sight seeing and of course a lot of tours as well. We booked our tours already in advance as there are some very special deals available on the net, especially on cancun-watersports that was very helpful in explaining us what tours were the best and which tours are a must.

This was our second trip to the Riu Cancun. We stayed there from June 14 to June 20. This place is great. Lots of food choices. The seafood was great shrimp, fish, clams, etc.. Drinks were very good. tip the waiters and they would keep the drinks coming. The rooms were cleaned daily. Mini fridge in room stock every two days. Nice view of beach from balcony. Nightly shows were very entertaining, but had to be there early to get a seat.

The beach is very nice, but there is only one BIG COMPLAINT:

There is ABSOLUTELY NO SECURITY at the beach. This was my prior complaint to management when we stayed there two years ago and NOTHING has been done to correct this PROBLEM. The problem is you would see people not from the hotel wandering around the beach and utilizing the hotels installations as if they were paid guests. This was very bothersome and unsafe with all the crime and violence happening in Mexico now. Seeing this people and not knowing there intentions, sitting in the hotel lounge chairs within three feet away from us and having no security around we were afraid of telling this people anything because we didnt know how they would react. This made relaxing by the beach really hard. One evening, from my balcony I saw two men walking by the hotel beach and taking off with a bag. Once again, I told management about this issue. One of them whose name was Marco, said they didnt have enough security to go around. Go figure..

We have stayed in other hotels in Cancun and Playa del Carmen where you could see security around the beach doing there job. I rank Riu Cancun's security rock bottom.

Took one picture on our last day to prove my point.

We decided to stay at the Riu Cancun for our anniversary this year because of their food, entertainment, disco, proximity to nightlife, and hoping they had improved their security(NOT).

Would recommend this hotel, but they need to beef up their security for the wellbeing of their paid guests.

We visited the Riu Cancun 9th - 23rd June 2011. We were on the 3rd floor of the main building with family members and friends on alternative floors, would have been nice if we could have been together but was really no problem as we simply met in reception, rooms were lovely and big and we had no bad smell in our room at all, air conditioning worked perfectly well and the fan kept the room lovely and cool. beds were huge but were a little hard, just ask at reception and they put a mattress topper on the beds and they are then much more comfortable, rooms are cleaned every day and linen and towels changed by lovely staff who can not do enough to help you, we had a wheelchair user in our party and she was put on the 6th floor of the annex building, they were next door to other members of our party so decided not to ask to be moved, there are lovely rooms on the ground floor so a little thought should be made by Riu to ensure the comfort of less able bodied guests.
The location in fantastic, very central to the party zone but no noise or disturbance can be heard at the hotel, but easily within walking distance, we have stayed on Cancun several times before but this was by far the best location hotel we have ever stayed in at the resort.
Food was excellent, very good choices and you will not fail to find something to eat however fussy an eater you are, we ate at the buffet most nights but also ate at the steak house which was excellent and also the Brazilian which we did not like at all! just not to our liking as they bring chunks of meat and carve you a slice at the table, may suit some but our group left feeling very disappointed, as a whole the food does get very repetitive and as we were at the hotel 2 weeks we really had to eat out on the second week.
Entertainment team work tirelessly and put on some excellent shows, some professional acts are brought in but in between the really good shows put on there are some that are really boring, but this is no different from any other hotel we have visited and at the end of the day this is Cancun and you really need to experience places like Coco Bongo which was AMAZING and the Pirate ships which were brilliant..
The only bad experience for us was the relentless noise at night from the American and Mexican youths, this went on until 4-5am on some occasions when they came home from partying also we found some of them could be very rude towards staff at the hotel, but these people work very hard and a please and thank you would not hurt, also they treat you the same whether or not you tip them, always very grateful but not expected of you, we tipped frequently as we thought the staff wonderful there.
I had a problem with my laundry as three of my shirts were damaged by the machine, these were expensive shirts (hugo boss etc) however the hotel gave me a full cost of replacement and were very apologetic and could not do enough to help the assistant Manager Zully was just lovely.
I would certainly return to this hotel again, I would hope that if the management continue to allow groups of youths or stag / hen guests they would use the annex building to accommodate these and then the noise would be limited and cause less disturbance to families and couples, great hotel with lovely staff we had a great time at this hotel.
