Upon arrival, we were given the wrong room number by the front desk clerk; wasted about 20 minutes trying to find our room on the first floor which was actually on the 10th floor. When I came back to the front desk and told them we couldn't find our room; he simply said 'Oh, I made a mistake", not even an apology for wasting my time. When I finally located our room on the 10th floor, I opened the door to find that our luggage hadn't been delivered. Back downstairs I went again and finally found our luggage still on the cart sitting by the front entrance; the bell hop brought it back down because there wasn't anyone in our room to let him in-hmm, I wonder whose fault that was. Internet usage is $4USD per hour; some very irate guests were arguing with the front desk because they couldn't get online. I'd be mad too paying a price like that and not being able to connect.
Next day when the room was done, toiletry items weren't restocked; had to call front desk to request shampoo and soap so we could take showers(no houkekeeping staff we met could speak any english). Supplies were finally sent up. Next day we came back to find the maids had only replaced one of the 2 blue beachtowels we had left to be replaced for clean ones and only 1 handtowel supplied,(first day we arrived there were 2). Next day we came back to find that there were no facecloths and only 1 large bathtowel( we were 3 people). Had to call front desk once again. When our toilet plugged up, again called front desk twice before someone finally came up to unplug it after we waited for about 10 hours. The next 2 days weren't too bad. On the 6th day, came back to our room; plenty of towels but the showercurtain was missing this time! Didn't bother to call front desk as we were leaving next morning anyway. Most of the food we found either undercooked, greasy or had no taste. You couldn't get any food after 10:30pm and no drinks after 1:00am or so. Had to wait until 6:30am next morning for food; 10:00am for drinks. First resort we ever stayed at that didn't provide 24 hour service. Not much entertainment either compared to other resorts we had stayed at. Final night, a guest in the next room I think had too much tequila, went on a rampage yelling, swearing and tore a supply room door off it's hinges. Police came to take him away. This could be a really nice resort but it's not being managed very well. The housekeeping staff in particular appeared to be poorly organized and some of the front desk staff were rather blunt and not at all polite. At least the restaurant staff were very good; they attended to all our needs and were very polite and courteous. Wish I could recommend this place but I can't.

We stayed here from Sun March 4th to Sat March 10. We arrived around 11:45 and check in was short and our rooms were ready. We were on the 10th floor over the lobby. Room was very nice, but as in most with hallways inside the hotel, you can hear everything. You could hear someone's alarm 10 doors down. The walls are thin and you can hear your neighbors, plus the noise from the disco or outdoor bar till early hours. The noise wasn't so bad that you couldn't sleep thru it tho.
We ate breakfast at the Las Palmas and were taken care of by Edwin every day he was there. We usually find one or two waiters for each restuarant and stick with them. Edwin was great, bringing special drinks and making funny hats for us. Breakfast was pretty good, Best pancakes and bacon I've had while in any Mexican resort. Everyone was very friendly and eager to get you what ever you wanted.
Lunch was mainly at the Meiican Buffet. Didier (spelling?) took very good care of us, we were a group of 9 + a baby. He made sure our drinks were full and had everything we needed. They had a pretty good variety, and most of the items were good. Onion rings, fried zuchinni. beef kabobs, fajitas, chicken, fries, even chicken wings. Our first day there we ate at the Seafood restaurant, one of us ordered crawdad soup, very interesting, the kids got a kick out of the "whole" crawdads. We had fish fingers, (very good), whole fried fish,(very good), and someone ordered the octopus/seafood mix and they really liked it. Service and food was slow, but we arrived there when they first opened and they weren't ready for us.
We tried the Dos lunas for dinner, but their food and service was lacking. They really didn't want to seat all of us together. My daughter and her husband didn't go in so the rest of us could sit together. There wasn't much we wanted to eat there. We left about 15 minutes later very dissatisfied.
We were very happy that there was a hamburger/hotdog cart right by where we camped out on the beach everyday. The kids ate alot of ice cream and popcorn that week. The girls that worked these carts were never annoyed at our kids repeated requests. One girl was especially nice, I did not get her name, and she wasn't working the day we left to say goodbye. She even recognized us on the street going to catch the ferry, and stopped us to say hello.
We did go to the snack bar on the beach that served chicken nuggets (sometimes) hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos and cheese, fries, and onion rings (sometimes). There was usually a long line, because this is where alot of people hung out at the activity pool. The cooks didn't seem to be too friendly, so mainly stuck to our hot dog cart on the Grand Side.
Dinner was a different story. You can make reservations at several restaurants, but one does not allow children under 12. (Careyes) Our kids were at kids camp, but we had a 1 yr old baby. No kids so we didn't go there. Both buffets for dinner we found lacking. Their lunch choices were much better than dinner. The first night we ate at the Los Palmas. It's a Brazillian type restaurant. Alfredo and Ignacio took very good care of us and we were offered all the types of meat they served. It was pretty good. Our second visit there wasn't as great. Different waiters and less meat choices.
The best choice for dinner was at The Beach Club. You had to make reservations, but we did not have a problem eating at 6:30. Even though the coincerige told us we all could not sit together, the manager pushed the tables together for us. Pedro was our waiter, and he was great! ( as well as Rafael) He talked very good english and we had a great time. The filet and shrimp was great!!! This was the best food we had eaten. We ate there twice, and got the same great service and food. During the afternoon this restaurant serves grilled flank steak and chicken. if you'r lucky Edwin or Daniel will wait on you.
As you can probably tell, food is important to us as well as friendly waiters. The grand side has a very nice pool, sometimes too shady, the other side has a very nice pool with a swim up bar, shallow spot for kids and activies. The beach is rocky at first, but it is shallow, only one way to walk on the beach, but it's a nice walk as far as it goes. The Grand side has part of the beach roped off for Grand customers, with nice chairs and beds to lounge on. They have plenty of shade when you have had too much sun. Jorge will get you a drink if you're thirsty. Live music at night by the pool, music thruout the day at the bars/restaurants.
They have a great kids club! Our kids loved the girls and their programs. They made pinatas, alien masks, got their face painted and even had a mini disco. They have a small pool with a waterslide. (you have to be so tall for the waterslide)
Overall we had a great time, met some great people, both workers and travelers. Even though there were a lot of spring breakers, we had a great time, just wish the buffets were better at dinner.

Room Tip: you might want bayside instead of the ocean view because of the noise at night. My daughter was bay...

Staying at our Mexican home is always a pleasure. We spent two weeks at the Grand Oasis Palm in February, 2012. This marks our fifteenth stay at either the Palm or the Grand Oasis Palm. We meet many people who return every year.
We keep coming back for many reasons: the honest, hard working, friendly staff, the cleanliness and safety of both the buildings and grounds, super service and the excellent food. The resort is both a convenient and secure location. Our room had a beautiful ocean view with excellent air conditioning, a very comfortable bed and dedicated staff who meticulously cleaned the room and refilled the fridge every day. We have never had any health issues whatsoever with the food and water served at this hotel. I would like to see larger flat screen TVs, the current ones are quite small.
Try the Brazilian restaurant and the brand new steak house beside it if you are a carnivore who enjoys superior cuts of meat. There are also lots of fresh and exotic salads, fruits and veggies available at the many restaurants.
Even though the Grand Oasis Palm was practically 100% occupied we did not face any long line ups at restaurants and the pool and beach were both very relaxing.
The Spa is very restful and a great place for mani/pedis and massages. For a small fee you can also rent a two-person Jacuzzi on the Spa grounds. They are very quiet and private.
There is a brand new tequila bar with heritage decor and a wide variety of tequilas. The sea food restaurant on the beach, which is open for lunch and supper, serves wonderful coriander soup and superb shrimp cocktail. There is also a brand new restaurant with authentic Mexican cuisine which is simply not duplicated in most North American cities. Well worth a reservation.
The hotel is a five minute walk, just across the bridge, from the place where the ferries go to Isla Mujeres and the pirate ships depart every night.
The hotel is on the main public bus route going both to the center of the hotel zone and downtown Cancun. Service is frequent, safe, cheap and reliable.
If you are celebrating a special occasion or event, consider hiring one of the beach photographers on site. They capture your special moments and you only pay for the pictures you like. They put the pictures on a CD. Abi was our favorite. We now have some beautiful professional and reasonably priced photos to remind us of our 41st anniversary!!
Next year we plan to spend an entire month back at the Grand Oasis Palm.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
"I'm all about the kid-stuff: endless entertainment, family-friendly accommodations, child-centric restaurants and a Kids Club that's cool as can be. But I've got that pampered, indulgent side, too, as a visit to my Kin Ha Spa shows - I always find plenty of fun stuff for parents to do while the kids are having fun. I'm like my sister resort, Oasis Palm - but a bit more upscale, with the extra amenities you're looking for. I'm Mexican and proud of it: my dancing, dining and decor reflect the culture of Cancun, with my delicioso Mexican food in the cantina and lots of activities for everyone". ... more   less
