From the moment we arrived at Mayaland we felt wonderfully cared for. From the gentleman helping with our luggage, to the man checking us in, to the woman who assisted us with tickets to the Chichen Itza light show, we had all of our needs met efficiently and with a smile. When we needed a taxi to the evening show at Chichen Itza a hotel concierge waited outside in a downpour to receive the taxi while he insisted we wait indoors. The hotel staff arranged our tour guide as we visited the ruins the next day as well as let us leave our luggage with them for 5 hours while we enjoyed lunch and an afternoon at the pool (we had checked out of our room but the ADO bus did not leave until 4:30 in the afternoon.)

In addition to the hotel, the Mayaland grounds are absolutely beautiful with trees and little bungalows along the pathways. The hotel has been renovated and our room was beautifully appointed and large. The beds were only doubles and the a/c worked more like a fan than a cooling unit and we loved our room nonetheless. The multiple restaurants were all serving delicious Mayan cuisine along with standard Mexican and American fare. We enjoyed the pool by the hotel both days we were there. This hotel has a classic colonial feel and in fact was built almost 100 years ago. I would recommend this hotel as THE place to stay in the Chichen Itza area. It is affordably priced and whatever you have to pay is totally worth it. I only wish we had arranged to spend 2 nights as that would have been wonderful.

I can not say enough good things about this place. It's beautiful, relaxing and so charming. The symphony of birds in the morning was incredible (though made for an early rise). The property grounds are lush and tranquil. Our children ran free and adventured every moment they could, spotting iguanas and other critters. We stayed two nights but could have stayed a week, as there are many things to do around the area. We toured the ruins as soon as they opened and arranged an excellent guide through the front desk. He was very engaging with our boys. Our meals were delicious and rooms very comfortable. We felt our time here offered a more authentic experience than what we encountered at the coast (not surprising). It was quiet, unhurried and interesting. Oh and the pools are wonderful too! Stay here.

Room Tip: All rooms seem nice.

We stayed here for one night as we traveled from Merida to Akumal on the coast. It was hot and humid which is normal for the jungle here. The Mayaland Hotel works with many tour operators so during the day it is filled with lots of tourists. When the tourists leave it is more quiet and enjoyable there. We checked in and were upgraded to a bungalow versus a room in the main building of the hotel. The bungalow was very nice and we loved it! Very clean and well decorated. Right near us was one of the 3 pools at Mayaland and we had it all to ourselves for the afternoon. It was delightfully refreshing! The grounds are kept so immaculately on this property. Last but not least at all, the service there was impeccable. The hotel staff were friendly and seemed very happy. There was a pride they had for working at this lovely place that was so nice to see. We definitely recommend staying at Mayaland. We will come back!

Room Tip: Spring for a bungalow and treat yourself!

It's hard to tell from online how great the hotel is. It's really a perfect little place. Lush landscaping, multiple uncrowded pools, great affordable food at their one very nice restaurant. Yes, you get easy (and early, compared with coming from Cancun) walking access to Chichen Itza next door. But there's more to do in the area (cenotes, and more), and I think the resort stands on its own as a destination for 2-5 days. It's so incredibly peaceful, with the hybrid feel of an eco resort (large property, tall green trees, singing birds, casual bungalows) mixed with aspects of a more upscale resort (good food, service, very good live music with dinner). It's not stuffy, but you get the feeling that the place could/should charge more. But it wasn't crowded, so maybe they can't? Anyway, I highly recommend the hotel. Unless you really are used to the Ritz-Carlton or need to be baking in the sun on the beach at a megaresort, you'll probably like this place a lot. It's beautiful, relaxing, cozy, and a good base for the area. We split time between here and Cancun, and wish we'd spent more/all of it here. We paid around $130/night, and at that price any imperfections in the hotel are trivial complaints.

3 of us stayed in the Tulum bungalow. 2 full size beds. The full size beds are a little tight for 2 people. Otherwise good room and location on the property.

Drive from Cancun felt a little long and dull (2+ hours on a very flat straight road), but was easy and safe in a rental car.

Cenote Ik Kil (close by) is a must-do, IMO, but try to avoid crowded times and use your rental car to explore some more of the area.
