I've stayed at El Coz twice now, and my husband and I are getting ready for our third trip next month. I'm so excited I can't stand it. I know there are a few people who rank this hotel low and complain about the food, but seriously, what do you expect for the price!?!? Sure, it's not 5-star gourmet dining, but it doesn't claim to be. The food is decent enough, and if you want something else, go into town for a dinner or two during your stay. The hotel prices are lower than many non-exclusives anyway.
The views and snorkeling simply can't be beat, and this beach is a lot less rocky than most in Cozumel. The piers on either side of the hotel keep the water clean and calm. We like to walk up the beach a bit to the Westin and then snorkel back with the tide (bring shoes, lots of little rocks and shells on the way). We've paid for multiple snorkeling excursions in Playa and Cozumel, and THIS is by far the best we've ever seen. We take the money we save on excursions and use it on massages! We brought our 3 teenagers here and they absolutely loved it.
Bottom line, if you're a diva and expect a 5-star resort for the price of a two or three star, don't come here. Just pay more. If you're looking for great service, a beautiful location, nice beach, and amazing sunsets, THIS is the place.
