Our family, including two kids ages 9 and 10 had a fantastic time at Sunscape Sabor. My husband and children have Celiac and the hotel staff went out of their way to accommodate. Special thank you to Luis Ortega at El Patio for making our kids feel extra special and making them an amazing flambé dessert right at the table, and thank you to Enrique at DeMario for taking personal time to run to the grocery store for Gluten Free flour to make us pizza.
There were lots of activities to keep the kids busy, and they felt really comfortable and safe at the hotel.
Snorkeling right off the beach is fantastic!

Prior to reserving two nights at Sunscape Sabor Cozumel, I checked the overall reviews. The food was consistently rated as "fair". Based on the price, we didn't expect the food to be top quality. However, were surprised to discover just how TERRIBLE the food was. Most dishes we tasted were flavorless. The qulity of the ingredients were poor.

We had to ask several times to have our water refilled. We also asked for ketchup. By the time the ketchup arrived our food was cold. The attention we received at dinner was slow and sometimes the servers were just rude.

Staff at the front desk, housekeeping, the spa, and bartenders was usually good. We received a warm welcome when arriving. The room we stayed in was dingy, but comfortable.

We booked this trip last minute and had limited expectations. The resort is on the small side which is what we like. Our check in set the tone for a great week. Jair at the front desk was very helpful and kind, giving us a lovely room overlooking the pool with a view of the ocean in the background. The room was clean, bed comfortable. The grounds are well kept and pretty. All of the staff are pleasant and always ready to help if needed. Any issues we had were dealt with promptly. Arbie and Jeanini from the animation team worked tirelessly to get people involved in activities. Beach volleyball was fun to watch. We never had any issues getting drinks at the beach bars and enjoyed the larger reusable plastic glasses with no straws. We liked the food and service at El Patio the best. The breakfast buffet was good too- Gloria at the omelet station makes the best omelets! Sunnyside was our staple for lunch- the fish fingers are delicious, great burgers too!
The beach and sea are lovely but bring your water shoes as it is rocky. We really enjoyed being able to take out the hobie cats ourselves and went out several times a day.
Overall we really liked the vibe of this resort and would consider returning in the future.

This was our 6th AI experience, previously having done so in Mayan Riviera, Cuba and DR. The last one, in Cuba, made me swear off all inclusives for a long time but Sunscape Sabor made me glad I tried one again.
The only disappointments were lack of espresso type coffees (the machine in the lobby was finally fixed on the morning of our departure) and Tang-type beverage in place of OJ at breakfast. The Kids Club was a disappointment to our 9 year old, as he was very much looking forward to some of the activities as described on the website, but that is more to do with the fact that he was the only kid ever signed up for any of the activities (even camping/movie on the beach!).
The Property: Unlike its counterparts on the mainland, the resort is of a more intimate size, perfect for a family with young kids as nothing is ever too far away. Everything is very well maintained and there are workers constantly cleaning the grounds and touching up. I very much appreciated the way the resort is eco-conscious: no straws or disposable glasses, plates or napkins. The plastic glasses have seen a lot of use and as a result are a bit off-putting in their appearance but we always bring our own drinks containers anyway.
The Room: We had a great room, newly renovated, perfectly working AC controlled through a remote and, although classified as 'tropical view', the balcony faced the beach. The bathroom, while still quite damp, had a little window with shutters that likely helped in eliminating a mouldy smell that plagues most Caribbean resort rooms. The maid did a great job of cleaning the room and because the tiles were the smooth kind, you could tell the floor was cleaned well. The beds were extra-firm but we (sort of) got used to it after a few nights.
The beach: very picturesque with the palm trees, many hammocks, beach loungers and palapas. It is very rocky once in the water but this also means most days the water is very clear and there are many types of fish just off the shore. Bring water shoes but they're also available at the store ($20-30 USD) or in town (2 for $20).
The staff & guests: it seems that the staff enjoys working at this establishment, everyone, with a few exceptions, had a friendly demeanour and we hardly ever had bad or lacking service. Laura at Portofino and Kenny at El Patio stood out in particular. The guests are predominantly American or Canadian and everyone is very friendly and chatty.
The food: Breakfast, with the exception of "OJ" and lack of strong coffee, was great. Lunch was pretty good, especially just grabbing burgers and quesadillas to go from the Sunnyside Grill. Dinner was meh - El Patio was ok, Sunnyside acceptable (could improve on presentation, sides looked like they were splattered on the plate) and Portofino was mostly overdone pasta and pizza (beef arrachera was very good though). House wine was very decent for AI.
The entertainment: the team, led by their fearless leader Hot Chocolate, works very hard all day and into the evening. I really enjoyed the fact that instead of doing the shows in the boring old Theatre, many parts of the entire property were utilized to set up a variety of quality shows. The fire show was the best AI show I have seen.
Overall, amazing value and, while we never visit the same place twice (life is too short), we just might make an exception in this case and bring more family and friends.

This is my second visit to Sunscape Sabor Cozumel. I have could not wait to go back. Things have changed....
Pros: This is a laid back right on the beach front hotel with excellent snorkeling right off the beach. The ocean front rooms are on the beach. The rooms are clean and the grounds are kept well. You do not have to wear a bracelet and do not need beach towel cards. Entertainment staff is amazing and try hard to get everyone envolved in daily activities.
Cons:Once upon a time beach front had slippers and robes, and a very well stocked mini bar in the room. NOT anymore...... We got water, soda, and 2 beers daily.
We used to be able to go to Secrets Market buffet. NOT Allowed anymore, which would be fine if Sunscape would improve their buffets. No bacon for breakfast. WTH?
Buffet staff spend a lot of time talking to each other and it takes 3 or more requests to get water, coffee, or a spoon.
The beds and pillows need to be replaced. There is no wait staff on the beach.
You get what you pay for at Sunscape Sabor, moderate accommodations.

Room Tip: beach front North side will be away from night time entertainment
