Staff was rude and unhelpful. Double charged me for my rooms, which caused me a huge mess with my bank. Staff did not care about this problem and did nothing to make up for it. Bed sheets had old urine stains on them and there was mold growing on the curtain. Unable to make reservations for dinner and we were there for 7 night! Beach bar/grill didn’t open until 11 and closed at 5:30 so had to walk to the buffet to get a water! To get the water you had to be dry, completely ridiculous!!

Dear Footprints618230,

Thank you for sharing your experience.

We regret the confusion you experienced at check out, fortunately our staff was able to identify the error and diligently cancelled the double charge without causing you any trouble with your bank account since the cancellation was made the very same day that the double charge was made, we are glad to once again clarify this incident to you. On the other hand we appreciate your comments on the rust stain caused to your linens, we will be now very careful while transporting them from laundry service to the room to make sure it gets to your suite in pristine conditions. We have also instructed our food and beverage team to make sure there is more availability for our guests on their preferred times for dinner. We again appreciate the time you are taking to highlight the areas to be improve in the future.

Best regards

I always wait to review anything that I've had a bad experience at because I don't want to let emotions completely color it. Here's the good points: friendly staff, decent bartenders, clean property and the rooms were spotless. Now, the not so good: supposed to be COVID safe (as much as you can) but there were so many glaring problems with it. Firstly, the roof in the lobby leaks in several places ... BAD. Clearly it's not new leaks and you can get aggressive mold in such an already humid environment. They just sat out buckets as though that's how it's supposed to be. In the buffet, you're not allowed to touch anything near the serving area ... But, their people do. I became intensely sick from fecal matter on something I ate according to my doctor. What good are masks when their people won't even wash their hands??? The buffet food itself is bland and even the "nicer" restaurants aren't anything you'd recommend to family and friends. The water behind the hotel is really ugly, although it's not their fault as a jetty close to them permanently ruins the water appearance .. looks more like brownish river water than the ocean. If you have children, they have only a few things for them to do. But, save the rare movie, there's absolutely NOTHING for the adults to do. No live music or anything else to break the monotony there. Most bizarrely, they CLOSE the adult pool/bar at 6pm! That's the ONLY thing for adults to do there. But, the children's pool is open until 11pm?!?! That means the adults are crammed together in the tiny leaking Lobby Bar with a single bartender for the ENTIRE hotel. Also while at the adult pool, there are NO towels ... the staff says they're not permitted to hand them out, so you have to walk to the complete OTHER side of the hotel, through the entire screaming children's area to get one. Who at the hotel thought this was a good idea? I've stayed at Melias across the globe and NEVER had these issues. So clearly there is some kind of mismanagement here. Bad food, lack of basic sanitary observances, zero adult entertainment, ugly water, leaking roof and an insufficient number of bartenders don't make for a great vacation. Of note: there were other issues as well, but these were the most glaring and unacceptable.

We love the Melia and look forward to staying there again in the future. This was our third time staying there. It was definitely worth the money to book the Grand premium rooms this time. The hotel is very clean, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and the overall atmosphere is very relaxing.

Our stay at Melia Cozumel exceeded our expectations. All the staff were amazing .... both so helpful and friendly. The room was great with the terrace overlooking the pool and beach. The food was excellent. The entire resort was immaculate. The beach might be the very best resort beach on the island. Everything was just great !!!

Our family of 5 visited the Melia June 27-July 4. We stayed in the grand premium rooms 704 and 701. These rooms came with some perks as far as reservations at the two restaurants and the Bali Beds (cabanas) on the beach that come with beach service which is excellent! The "RESERVATION" is a little difficult bc the front desk is not always helpful. I found that the bali beds were empty most of the time and if you asked the servers after noon, they were happy to have you use one. The restaurants did not seem to be full at any reservation time that we attended. The front desk never had the time you asked for but by the middle of the week we discovered just take whatever reservation time they say and go whenever. We were never turned away regardless of our reservation time.
If you would like family pictures done at sunrise or sunset or any other time of the day, use photography service at the Melia (located next door to the gift shop). They did an awesome job taking as many pictures as we wanted. You can buy whichever pictures you like for $10 ea (sent by email) or all the pics with a video for like $450. There is no sitting fee but a gratuity is "appreciated".
There was no airport shuttle but we took the Cozumel Shuttle from the airport for $6/person. On our departure we took a taxi to the airport from the Melia and it was $25. Taxi rides into San Miguel for the ferry, shopping etc was $8 ea way.
Being a smaller resort, bars do open until 11a and close at 1p. So, instead of mimosas with your breakfast, you eat breakfast and when breakfast closes at 11a (to switch out for lunch they close the buffet 11a-noon) then you go to the bar for your mimosa. The pool bar opens at 11a and closes at 6p. The snack bar is a bit limited in food options but still fine. The food in the Melia is not 5 star but it is for the most part good but not great and you will not starve. We did walk a little way down the road to the Original Lobster House. You can expect to pay $35-$65 depending on the size lobster tail you pick out (yes, you pick your own). You wont go wrong with a night out here for dinner, it is amazing!
Your room does have a mini fridge filled with coke, diet coke, sprite, tecate, hard cider, seltzer and an energy drink. Bottles of water are also provided. If you leave a note for housecleaning for extra water or whatever you like (and a couple dollars) they will leave you what you ask for.
The beach at the Melia had plenty of open chairs, several huts and never seemed crowded. You can use snorkeling gear and walk a little ways down the beach to the other side of the pier for great snorkeling at no costs. The hobie cat is also available for no cost if you know how to drive one. If not it is $25 for a lesson.
There are shows or bands each evening. The Mayan show, Latin Show and the water circus in the pool were all very entertaining.
The activity crew (Friendliest group of people on the property, especially Mary!) work hard getting people to play volleyball on the beach, pool volleyball and several other activities that are available including a game room with air hockey, pool, basketball shots and darts. Then there is badminton, archery, batting cage & shuffleboard.
The spa was very relaxing and appointments were readily available.
The only downsides - towels are located by the kids pool rather than by the adult pool, MASKS are still required inside but really only enforced in the restaurants. Still very annoying and the only reason I looked forward to going home where we dont have masks!! The resort does shut down early, usually pretty quiet by 10p and only one bar in the lobby is still open until 1a.

Room tip: ocean views from the grand premium rooms are stunning and worth it!!
