We’ve been coming to this gorgeous island for 28 years. San Martin is the most beautiful beach on the island but so deadly. We sadly witnessed the drowning of two people here who were caught in currents. It’s something that will stick in my brain for awhile and a stark reminder of the danger. Don’t ignore the red flags!

We visited as part of a personal tour we booked for 8 of us. Sand and water are great although the sea was a bit rough and I think its this way most of the time. Its a public beach and no crowds even on Friday. No real amenities so you have to bring your own chairs, towels etc. There is a grille, bar and gift shop across the street you can go too but i did not visit as we were there just a short time at the end of our day. Next time in Cozumel I plan on spending a few hours there. It is on the other side of the island and no electricity etc.

We were on a cruise and had done most of the tourist excursions in Cozumel before, so we rented a jeep and drove to the windy side of the island. Very nice beach with surf strong enough for body surfing. We ate lunch at the restaurant across the street and the food was really good. They even had WiFi which made our kids happy !!! The waves were fun for our family but we have teenagers, if you have young kids the waves would be too much for them on this side of the island. The beach was not crowded at all and there was a lifeguard on duty. On the way back to the ship we stopped along the way at several places and took some great pictures. Was a great day in Cozumel.

Thank Sam C
