Stopped here on a outing during a recent cruise stop. Beautiful white sand beach, The red flags were out so we didn't get in the water as the surf was rough. Lifeguard was on duty. We enjoyed the sunshine, and were able to find a bit of shade to relax for a while! There is a restaurant just across the beach and a drink stand which has great drinks at reasonable prices - try one in the pineapple, it was great! There is some t-shirt and souvenir shopping there as well. Very clean bathrooms for a $1.00 charge. It was fun and not crowded on March 20.

Stopped at Playa San Martin and watched wind surfers. The beach was gorgeous and there were lifeguards because if the current. Across the highway was a couple of gift shop that had some unique items at good prices and an awesome bar and grill way up high on stilts so you can see the beach and the jungle behind the bar. This is the only place on the east side of the island that has the ability to take credit cards. The food was delicious the service was great and the drinks were spot on. Highly recommend stopping here.say Hello to Reyes K'nol for us from his family from Kansas. He will make sure you have a good time

This was an unexpected beautiful beach just randomly on the side of the main road on the south side of the island.

A gorgeous beach on the windward side of the island with few people.

This is a perfect place to get away from it all. Strong breezes cool you down and there are great waves to play in. I was there solo and it felt perfectly safe to leave my belongings on the beach to go for a dip.

Beware though of strong rip currents in this area. Areas of calmer water between the breaking waves indicate rip zones. Survey the water carefully before entering. These calmer areas seem so inviting among the crashing breakers, but they can be deadly. Stay near the beach when the red flags are out and heed the warnings of the lifeguards. You'll have the urge to float and ride the waves, but this can get you pulled towards the rip areas.

There is nothing on the beach and little shade so bring your own umbrella. The strong breeze also makes this the perfect place for an air lounger.

The best way to get here is with a rental car. Prepare before you go as there is no gas outside of town and cell service is sketchy. There are lots of restaurants and bars along the way but little else. However, when I had a minor car problem, within a minute 6 cars had stopped to help me.

We’ve been coming to this gorgeous island for 28 years. San Martin is the most beautiful beach on the island but so deadly. We sadly witnessed the drowning of two people here who were caught in currents. It’s something that will stick in my brain for awhile and a stark reminder of the danger. Don’t ignore the red flags!
