Four of us went for dinner last night. As always dinner was fantastic, service was timely and the wait staff was super accommodating. One of our diners is gluten free and the options were many and she left more than satisfied. My only confusion lies in that we have been dining here every time we are in Mérida for the past two years and the menu has not changed a bit. The food is great but I as well as my family would love some of the chefs other creations. We look forward to dining here each time we are in town. Truly a five star restaurant and experience. One of us had the tasting menu paired with the wine, one had the filet with an additional side of mashed potatoes, one had black sesame crusted salmon and last but not least, the brisket and octopus Chiccharon. And of course everyone had dessert. It was a great night had by all.

My wife arranged a dinner here for ten people to celebrate my birthday. We were sadly disappointed by the poor service and low food quality. After reading the reviews we expected much more.

Our table was ready when we arrived, unfortunately the staff was not we waited for an eternity to get our drinks. When they came they did not arrive together or even close to the same time. We ordered some appetizers, which were good but not in anyway outstanding. When we reordered drinks, the waiter forgot about them and we had to ask three times before he finally was able to bring them to our table.

When we finally received our dinners, after my wife had gone to speak to the manager, they were all cool. Six of the people had ordered rib eye steaks. They were so fatty and full of gristle that they were nearly inedible.

We had great food everywhere we went in Merida. This was by far the most expensive dinner with the poorest food quality and service. We did tell the management, and they invited us for free drinks the next day. It never ceases to amaze me when someone stumbles so badly, that they think a free drink at another time fixes the problem. We live in the US, and this was a special dinner with an unexpected level of failure and a management attitude of indifference.

Looking for a special place to enjoy the cuisine of the Yucatán? This isn't it.

After planning a 10 member family trip, with this restaurant being the pivotal celebratory location, we could not have been more disappointed. Thankfully, this one restaurant was our only disappointing experience in all of Merida. The restaurant itself is lovely, but this is where it began and ended for us. The service was incredibly slow not our server's fault, he was way over-committed, but this points directly to how well the restaurant is run . . . or not. All ten of the meals arrived "cool" and the five of us who ordered the Rib Eye Steak (highest priced item on the menu) all had them served very rare, although we asked for them to be prepared well done (the Yucatan typically serves their meat more rare than the U.S. so we took this into consideration when ordering). The quality of the meat was sub-par, with large chunks of fat throughout, not the typical nice marbeling one expects with rib eye. All of the dishes lacked flavor and depth with the asparagus mostly seasoned with too much butter and garlic. One family member is certain they saw a "critter" run out from under the table which was also observed by a gentleman at another table seated next to us. I did not see this, so I can only report what was told to me, but there would no reason for (and out of character) for this person to ever make such a comment. The saving grace for the entire meal was that the birthday cake ordered from an outside bakery was delivered on time and delicious. When called the next day to describe our experience, we were offered the opportunity to return that afternoon and have drinks "on the house". So, we should leave our last tour day, take a cab and return to the place where we had such a poor experience? I don't think so. I think this is what happens when a chef's arrogance outlives their talent. Their are so many exciting restaurants with fantastic food and service in Merida, consider one of those instead.

We had a couple drinks, snacks and dessert in the rooftop bar on Saturday evening and everything was great, food tasty, drinks well prepared and dessert amazing. The service was good but a bit slow. We have to go back and visit the restaurant.

Honestly, the food in this restaurant ( that we had) was delicious and satisfying. The servers tried their very best to help us, our Spanish is very, very limited and there English was better than our Spanish.

I highly recommend this restaurant. Experience Chocolate in its best. Their pear Salad was yummy!
