This place is beautiful, the best in Merida. Great location, peaceful, great customer service, clean rooms, nice pool and patios, bar opens at 6:00pm ( if they will open the bar early could be much better)
This hotel is the best for your trip to Merida.

A converted convent. It's good that these historic buildings are not falling into disrepair. The room was large and basic. The bathroom needed attention. Basin dripped and hot water took a very long time. Staff just advised us to keep running it. That isn’t environmentally friendly.
There was a small pool but only three loungers. Towels appeared in the morning. We were unable to ascertain if guests had obtained the towels to reserve the loungers or if the staff put three there and the same towels remained throughout the day for all comers.
Breakfast in the courtyard was pleasant and the waiting staff helpful.

The name gives it away. It does have religious overtones but its relatively subtle. The courtyard is lovely with a fountain and dining area. The food is good and the atmosphere relaxed. It is very handy for the city centre but away from the noise.

Room Tip: Upstairs is quieter and further back from the road

My husband and I recently spent a week in this lovely hotel. I is an enchanting place loaded with ambience. A superb staff who worked very hard to make you feel at home. I was worried about the heat. While we were there it stayed in the mid nineties. The AC in are room worked very well as did the ceiling fan.The wifi worked well in the room and by the pool. The room was very clean an updated but in keeping with the style of the hotel through out. We loved breakfast in the courtyard.(Try the chiliquilies they are excellent!) It was wonderful having the hotel located so close the the main square. We gave up our rental car when we moved into the Fray Diego and never missed it the entire week. Our stay here was marvelous and if we are ever in Merida again we wouln't stay anywhere else!

Room Tip: No elevator so if you have trouble with stairs as for a first floor room.

We stayed at Fray Diego for 3 nights, and our stay was delightful, We were in Merida for our daughter's wedding. The staff let us use the courtyard dining tables in the afternoon so that we could assemble gift bags for the wedding guests. We ate delicious breakfasts there 3 mornings, and dinners on three evenings. Our room was spacious and clean, bed is comfortable, and the bathroom was clean. It took some adjustment to get the AC temp right at night, but not a problem really. We stayed on the 3rd floor, and the room was quiet and had a view of the courtyard with the pool. We loved the serenity of the main courtyard next to the dining room, with the fountain and trees and birds, all very relaxing. The front desk staff, housekeepers, and the restaurant staff were all very friendly and helpful. We will stay here again on our next trip to Merida.

Room Tip: No elevator to the 2 upper floors, so if you have mobility issues ask for a room on the first (ground) floor
