Can't say enough great things about this place. The decor is modern/erotica. Great for hot couples! Pricing was fair and included free unlimited drinks (all the good stuff!) and complimentary breakfast. I'm talking O.J., coffee, fruit and a full breakfast dish. I especially liked the chilaquiles and that habanero salsa on the side is bombdiggidy.

The rooftop pool is heated and very pleasant. We even bought souvenir shirts and hats and even that was priced at least half of what they should cost.

Staff is ultra friendly and very attentive. Always greeting with a smile.
I will recommend this to friends and share my experience with them.

I will be coming back for sure!

Tip: Be sure to use a booking agency that includes all the perks. You'll pay a little bit more upfront, but you'll save $100s on drinks and food.

I completely stumbled upon this hotel when I flew in to Cancun, disliked it, and ventured instead down to Playa on the ADO bus. This hotel is a hoot! It's a block off "5th Avenue." As you approach it, you think the balconies have people standing on them in the heat of the day. Surprise! They are mannequins! That leads to many more surprises throughout your stay…a small lobby pool complete with alligator floaties, rooms with neon lights, breakfast INCLUDED in the price, and many others. The posted rate at the reception desk is $140 USD per night. However, check your TRIVAGO or HOTELS TONIGHT apps and you'll get it for as little as $45--a true steal. The reception, service, and restaurant staff are all gracious and hospitable. This was a GREAT discovery and I HIGHLY recommend it! One of the receptionists was incredibly knowledgeable about the local and surrounding areas, including the cenotes, ruins, restaurants, transportation, and much more.

Location - Amazing. Right where you'd want to be. Close to the beach, shops, and night life

Hotel - Extremely well decorated and clean in common areas. (lobby/restaurant) The pool in the lobby is very shallow and is more decorative. It seems like a popular place because people who weren't guests of the hotel bought access to the rooftop pool/bar.

Restaurant - really good food and drinks. The plating of food was decorative.

Room - Very clean. The bathroom was really nicely designed and they have organic shampoo/conditioner/lotion and loofa. Room includes a security box and fairly priced mini bar for convenience. My second floor room had a balcony that faced the street and there is a bar down the street that played loud live music/karaoke until about 1am. I didn't mind it, but I can see how it'd be disturbing if you are a light sleeper (earplugs!)

Staff - As other reviews have mentioned, most of the staff does not speak English. Unfortunately I do not speak Spanish, but every transaction was extremely smooth. The front desk person would just have me type into "google translate". The staff at the bar/restaurant would help by getting a staff member who could speak English. I felt that it made the experience more authentic!

Wifi - The wifi in the bar/lobby works well. However, the wifi in the room was more finicky. I was a little upset at first, since I specifically booked this hotel with the understanding that there'd be wifi in the room. It was more of a hassle, but they were extremely kind and offered other perks instead.

I would definitely come back and stay at Hotel Reina Roja again in the future. It's a lot of fun, beautifully designed and extremely clean with wonderful staff!

Room Tip: rooms with balcony facing street a little noisy

Located half a block away from 5th Ave where most of the restaurants and bars are located, and 3 blocks away from the beach it's a great choice. The hotel is nicelly decorated, service is just ok. It offers free wifi and breakfast wich has a few options but tasty and enough. Rooms are good too, spacious and clean, but noise is a problem if your neighbors are noisy!

The hotel room was awesome and no complaint there, awesome shower and good block out windows with almost no noise.
The services and the staff on the other hand were less. I speak Spanish so I had no issues but my boyfriend didn't and it was even impossible for him to order a single coke (honestly they didn't understand the can I get a Coca Cola please?) and it showed that the effort wasn't there.

The guy from front desk didn't even flinch when you said "Hello" which seems rude since we tried to get an answer each time we passed by (which isn't English related but just plain rude). The restaurant and bar service was the exact same thing, you couldn't even get a breakfast order without having to use a translator.
Last but not least where all the rules that changed every second. One moment you can't order at the bar upstairs anymore and the next you can't order soft drinks cuz they aren't included in the free drinks, to which we then laughing asked if we could get a rum and coke and hold the the rum please.
The upstairs pool is for show mostly and when we went to sun tan at 9 am it was closed (seriously?).
To be honest I wouldn't recommend this hotel unless you wanna play lost in translation or if you are Spanish speaker, cuz there was only one single person in the whole hotel who tried to do an effort and that's the sweetest girl who is sometimes in front desk wearing glasses (sorry I can't remember her name) but for the rest I would say try your luck elsewhere.
