Very average, at times below average property. Rooms wee ok, and clean. Food was decent. Coffee at the bars was really good. The property is small and not as posh as other hotels I've been with the same start rating. Food was decent, and some of the dishes were truly great but lacking presentation. Restaraunts on the property have really good food and service, totally different from main cafeteria. There was an annoying problem with not enough beach chairs and people reserving them early in the morning and not showing up until later. Staff does not watch for it. Also keep your towel, they get stolen and hotel charges you 20 for missing towel card. Service overall at the restaraunt is below average, sometimes its a language problem and sometimes staff just doesnt bother to meet your needs. While my vacation was ok, I will be going to a different hotel next time.

Stayed at the Viva Wyndham June 8 - 15, 2012. Hotel was nice, clean and well maintained. Most of the hotel staff was pleasant and helpful, but this was not alway the case at the front reception. We had a few difficult exchanges with the staff at the front reception mainly because of poor communication between them. Food was average at the buffett, nothing special but there was enough variety that you could always find something. The al-et-carte restaurants were fantastic, especially the Viva Cafe! The staff there couldn't have been nicer and the food amazing. We had our room changed because of excessive noise and a musty smell and were moved to a really nice room which was spotless and quiet. The beach was beautiful, but hard to walk along the waters edge because of slant on the sand, so we ended up walking around the resort to get daily exercise. The animation staff worked so hard to make things fun for people during the day and even put on shows in the evening that were really good. Shopping was great in Playa Del Carmen and an easy taxi ride from the resort which costs about $7.00 . We also took an excursion to Chitzen itza which was an amazing trip. Over all, a really good holiday in a nice resort in a perfect location.

Room Tip: A "superior" room at this hotel is just an average room. Noise can be a real issue at th...

Stayed in this hotel twice in the past year. You really cant beat the price!! Located on the best part of Playacar. Every one that stays at this hotel really hangs out at the beach area (not so much the pool). The water is absolutely amazing ! The grounds are very pretty and they never placed me in a room that was that far from the beach. Food is decent, not amazing but not bad. A lot of choices. .Excellent guacamole. There is a very nice sitting area when you enter the hotel. That was our favorite part of the resort. We would go there every night around 5 for tea time and margaritas. This hotel also has a free bicycle rental which a lot of the other hotels (more expensive) do not even have.
The rooms were OK. The beds were not very comfortable at all and the sheets were not very soft. I am very picky about bathrooms though and I LOVED this bathroom. Has an amazing stall shower in a Mexican motif! Could have stayed in that shower for hours.
The grounds feel very 'Mexican' which was very nice. I had stayed at the RIU also and the grounds did not feel very Mexican at all.
THE MEXICANS ARE SO NICE AND GIVE THE BEST SERVICE!!
Would def go back!

Stayed at the Wyndham Maya for a week with my family (wife and 2 teenaged daughters). The rooms were decent and always kept clean by the housekeeping staff, loved the towel animals each day. The grounds are very well maintained and the staff is always working to keep them that way. Had a need for maintenance help the first day we were there and the assistance arrived quickly, the job got done right away and with a smile. Great service from the bartenders, especially Reuben and Petro at the Pool bar. Though there was always a different main ingredient each night, as others have mentioned, the majority of food at the buffet did get a bit repetitious, Found enough variety by eating by the pool bar and bbq to compliment the buffet and restaurants. Did get to eat at 3 of the restaurants on site and my favorites for the food were Portofino and Miramare but Don Diego's was great for the sombrero pictures. Beach is great, love the white sand and pretty water, though if you want a palapa for shade you better get there early. Animation staff did a great job keeping folks active and entertained. Evening shows were not top notch but we enjoyed watching them each night. Great location and value for the money. Enjoy your time in the sun and water!
