We have stayed at the Fairmont Mayakoba in May for the past two years and plan to return again next year! The atmosphere is so special in that it allows for a peaceful relaxing environment with all your needs attended to by warm, caring people. We stay in the villas on the beach and absolutely would not change o=for anything as it gives you the best of all worlds! The beach, a balcony pool and the luxury of having the sounds of the ocean as your lullaby! Excellent attentive service! We love using the BMW bicycles ! Every day we walk to breakfast from our villa on the beach and walk back afterwards! Then in the evening we do that lovely walk again or bike! Then return to our villa for dinner or walk over to the restaurant on the beach front!
The food is superb!
A lovely, relaxing vacation!
Go once and I promise you too will return !!

Dear Stacey T,
Thank you for sharing your experience at Fairmont Mayakoba with the TripAdvisor Community. Reading the reviews of our guests is one of my favorite times of the day, but when reading that of a repetitive guest is even more rewarding. Thank you for your loyalty, we look forward to welcome you back at one of our ocean front casitas soon.
Cordially,
Paulina Feltrin

The whole ecosystem that has been created is unique and the possibility to live in this property for a few days at a exceptional standard of living that the hotel is providing is simply unique. Rooms, services and food were great. Really nothing to say. Staffs are numerous and really keep the property in an exceptional shape. If you stay in the bungalow, try to have a room on the 2nd floor (first floor if you are french) as the room in the ground floor seems to me really darken by the jungle environment. We tried the ecosystem boat trip, do it, it is expectional. It is a not a standard hotel boatrip of the property, they REALLY created a unique ecosystem there and the boat trip allows you in 40 minutes to enjoy the mangrove, the jungle, the canal, the cenottes and a bit of the gulf course. We saw many birds, turtles and yes, a crocodile langing on the golf course shore with the mangrove. Yes, if you can offer it, I would really recomend Mayakoba because it is unique in its combination of luxury, services and such an exceptional place. Great job to the developer.

Room Tip: Try on the second floor as the mangrove/jungle may be a bit tight to the ground floor rooms.

This hotel is beautliful and it has a great location, but beware of the food. The food is so bad and expensive my wife and I had to go out to eat to other places. You would expect being the hotel it is to have the best. But the chef they have right now lacks of knowledge and has very bad cooks working with him. We ordered shrimp quesadillas one day 22 bucks for 3 and they where flavorless. Another day a burger and fries, the fries had tons of salt in them. The fish was dry, the mest was always overcooked and super salty. If you are looking for a nice destination look no further, but if you are one who likes good food beware.

Dear Econck,
Thank you for your honest feedback and for staying with us during your recent visit to Riviera Maya. The culinary offering of the resort has enjoyed good reviews in the past along with different accolades, reason why yours is surprising. Nonetheless, it has been shared with the Chefs as to review in more detail the preparation of the plates you mentioned. I hope that you will trust us with improvements and will consider our resort for your next Mexican beach vacation.
Regards,

My hubby and I stayed for 5 days at this hotel in January 2013. Of course, the grounds are immaculate, rooms beautiful/modern and the beach - well its a beach!:) But, what REALLY amazed us was truly the 5 star service. We both got VERY ill, with my husband ending up in the hospital to rehydrate and we initially thought it might have been the food (turns out there was a nasty virus going around Mexico at that time) and the hotel first went and checked EVERYTHING we ate and all the kitchens. They then had a car take us to the hospital and wait with us at the hospital. They then comped us 2 nights extra (as we couldn't leave on our scheduled flight) and brought us soup, gatorade, and fruit smoothies on the house as we recovered. The manager spoke to us several times before we left as well and showed legitimate concern for our health. THIS IS WHAT YOU PAY FOR when you stay at an establishment like this - comfort knowing that if anything goes wrong you will be taken care of thoroughly. This review is very late in coming but so be it - HIGHLY IMPRESSED with the team at Fairmont Mayakoba! We will be back (hopefully not sick again tho!)

Family spent 4 nights in August at the Mayakoba. We traveled down from Cancun with a rental car which provided us with the ability to leave the resort.

The Mayakoba resort shares one huge entrance. Front guard waived us in and we had a short drive to the Fairmont. Upon arrival into the Fairmont, we noticed a huge crowd of people leaving that day. Still the valet helped us immediately with our car and took our bags.

Due to the crowd checking out, there was a short wait to check-in. Unfortunately our room wasn't ready at 230pm so he asked us to have a seat and to check back in 30 minutes. They did give us a few cold drinks in plastic cups and cold wet towels. The lobby is quite stunning, overlooking the resort. After sitting around for a while, decided to check with the front desk. The young lady informed us that our room was ready. Instead of having me check with the front desk, it would have been nicer if they came to find us when the room was ready.

Our signature casita room was on the 2nd floor overlooking a canal in the 600s. The room was large with huge windows/balcony. The bathroom was also huge with a large tub and shower. Large king bed which was very comfortable. Working desk with plugs, large LED TV. Plenty of closet space with electronic safe. There is a small fridge and plenty of bottled water. There is a turn down service in the evening. My son decided to take a bath the first night and we realized the tub wouldn't drain so had to call maintenance.

Newspapers were dropped by the front door (someone probably tosses them rather than hang them). Twice it rained in the morning so the papers were drenched and then not replaced with new ones which was irritating.

The Fairmont has several swimming pools. Each is well staffed with folks bringing towels and drinks. The large pool in the center with a slide is a big hit with the kids.

The beach is fairly long but there isn't much sand as most of the beach front casitas are close to the water. Many of the covered areas are reserved for those beach front rooms. Service at the beach was a disappointment to me. Had to find someone to set up chairs and provide us with towels.

We had the buffet breakfast everyday at the La Laguna which had a good variety everyday of fruits, breads, mexican food and an omelette station. Service was very good. Fresh coffee and different fresh juices each day allowed us a good start. We had one lunch by the large pool next to La Laguna which was fine. As for dinner, we had one dinner at La Laguna which was ok, nothing special but suited our needs. We also had dinner at El Puerto one night which was excellent from the food quality to the service. Otherwise, we headed out to Playa Del Carmen for a few dinners/lunches.

The spa is quite good. Had a massage one day and the service was excellent. The gym is also in the spa and is well equipped. The golf course also looks fantastic but did not have time to play.

The grounds are large as others have indicated. We never had a problem or long wait for the golf carts to pick you up. There was a lack of bicycles (we only had one day where they were available for our party to ride around) compared to numbers of people during our stay.

Wifi is good in the rooms and by the pools. There is a cost unless you are a Fairmont member.

Check-out was easy. Called for help with luggage which they picked up immediately. Bill was correct and our rental car was waiting out front.

Overall: Wonderful grounds, the place is well kept considering the open space. Lots of wildlife and a nice boat tour through the property. Staff (especially the drivers and folks working in the restaurant) were fun and engaging. Rooms were well laid out and very comfortable and quiet. Bugs do bite after the sun sets!

Dear johnathome,
Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review on TripAdvisor, but especially for selecting Fairmont Mayakoba as your home during your recent visit to Riviera Maya.
I sincerely apologize for the “bumpy” start; however, I’m happy to read that our colleagues managed to have your room ready before check-in time (set at 3 pm).
Your comments on the culinary offering, the service and the grounds are much appreciated and have been shared with all departments involved, either to take note and make improvements, or to inspire our Colleagues to continue providing the warm and personalized service we are well known for.
We look forward to see you again on your next visit to Mexico.
Sincerely,
