“The worst food ever!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 March 2012

Whatever you do, avoid this place. Service is bad. Food is bad. Expensive and slow is the rule. Waiters are unproffesional. Fish smelled. Nothing was good to remember. Make your self a favor. Eat in another place. Sorry.

““Wonderful food, great variety””
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2012

Beware you WILL wait even if you have called two days in advance for a reservation. BUT, when you do get to the food you will LOVE It. Everything is presented beautifully! It is unique in every way. Bring a few friends and order several different items to share. Service is not the best, very slow.....but who cares ???

“Great Meal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 March 2012

My husband and I had dinner at El Tabano our first in Tulum. We had a good experience, but also, having read reviews on this forum, we were prepared for things to be at a different pace from the United States. With our expectation appropriately set, we had a lovely meal. We were (apparently) the second table there for the dinner rush and received quick and friendly service. We had three margaritas, one glass of wine, two apps, and two entrees for approx. 660-700 pesos before tip (we were there 3/10). Everything was great and it was one of our favorite meals, both for the location and for value. The food was delicious--my husband had the snapper entree and I had the red chicken. Both were very yummy. We are not cheapskates nor are we high rollers, but we thought that for the money that El Tabano provided a really special and delicious meal. There are many pricey places along the beach at which to eat, but El Tabano was (a bit) more affordable. unique, and delicious. One of our new favorites. We plan to return!
