It looks alright from the outside. Good location and not too shabby. However this was NOT the case. The food was poor, the bread was wet and the mango shake was vile. The service was terrible. It took 25 minutes to get anyone’s attention and there was one other table in at the time. A friend of mine was in the middle of asking one of the waiters if she could get a fresh mango shake as the one she had been given had a particularly unpleasant off taste, when the waiter turned to cat that was curled up next to our table and kicked it out of the restaurant and across the street, with considerable force. Then after grinning at our shocked faces he picked up another and threw it after it, laughing to his colleagues before snatching the shake and taking it over the only other guests table where he shoved it in the face of a man and forced him to take a sip without explanation before walking off smirking.

The behaviour of that gentleman, who appears to also work in the tourist office opposite the restaurant, was disgraceful and quite frankly a little bit unnerving. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The food was fine but not amazing. There was big strips of ginger in the dish which were inedible but the flavour was okay and the dish was fine. Service was strangely poor. I was left standing at the entrance for five minutes and staff seemed ready for a nap rather than service in the middle of the day.
It was reasonably priced for the area but considering what you get, it should probably be a little cheaper.

We kept coming back here as their food is simply of excellent quality. So much flavor! You should try their pumpkin burger (comes with some french fries). Next to that, it’s a nice place to spend some hours, watching people pass by.

We had no problems with the waiters on any occasion, but it’s true the it’s sometimes a bit hard to get the waiters attention. Remember, this is Lao PDR (Please Don’t Rush). The food comes trough quickly though.

Would definitely recommend.

This place is in a prime position on the right hand corner as you walk up from the boat dock.It is a large open-sided area with white tablecloths, a pleasing decor and a lounging area.I tried one or two other nearby eateries but kept coming back here because i thought the food was of very good quality.
Now for the bad bit! Dreadful service! The young waiter who seemed to be on duty all day had no English skills to speak of and was unable even to understand a request to pay the bill - another couple had to resort to waving their money in front of him in order to get him to understand! His mathematical skills were not always up to giving the correct change.The young waiter who came on in the evenings seemed to have a bit of English but not much! What is the point of employing people who have little or no English skills in a restaurant which is targetted at foreign visitors? Both waiters sometimes disappeared - off somewhere on their motorbikes or into the kitchen or maybe somewhere else. On one occasion, it was left to the lady from the kitchen to bring me my burger and chips (delicious) and she simply put the plate down in front of me and walked away, without knowing that sauces and tissues need to be provided as well.
The boss was a bit older than the waiters but not much - he seemed to speak good English and would occasionally get involved - if you could get his attention - but he seemed to prefer to spend his time playing with his two young children, eating and chatting with friend/relatives or manning his travel agency desk. Perhaps he is unaware that customers in restaurants expect good service as well as good food.
Because I wanted to eat the food here I was reduced to regarding the tragedy of the poor service as a comedy and inwardly laughing at it.

This is a nice and clean family restaurant in Don Khone island, near the center of the small village. We had dinner for 3 people (stir fried morning glory with chicken, pepper and garlic pork -this was very good indeed-, pad thai with pork, with water and a small Lao beer), and it was 112.000 kip in total, about 4 euros per person. Very young boys provide service in the tables. This is an excellent restaurant option in the island, much better than the one in the hotel.
