The owner of this restaurant/tour company across the street is dishonest and ripped us off. My friend booked a fishing tour for us; in hindsight I should have booked it myself since I have been living in Laos for 5 years and know proper behavior from not.

The owner paid his staff 30,000 kip to take us on a boat for a couple hours with junk fishing gear to a couple places where there was no fish. The staff clearly had no experience. He did not speak English either so I had to translate. That’s fine he didn’t speak EN, but we were charged 240,000 kip for this rubbish experience. We later found out that this same tour should not cost more than 100,000 kip. He is a slick talker and I want to let other people know that there are other really good choices in Don Khong than this guy.

The service at the restaurant is quite poor as well, I should add. Very slow service (even by Lao standards!), screaming kids all over, higher priced than most. Food is not impressive for the price. There are several other very good options on the island. I will certainly not be back.

The restaurant was fairly quiet at 7pm which is typical for the area . Folks seem to eat early.
The only waiter was a teenager who was dressed in a dirty football and was very quiet, bordering on sullen. The menu was a bit of a joke running to about 40 pages !
Quality not quantity . The food was ok. It’s hard not has a decent meal in Laos which doesn’t tickle your taste buds.

Lao Long Restaurant was the only other restaurant we ate at. While lacking a river view, they make up with a few comfortable seating areas. We stuck with the basic noodle dishes and fruit shakes here which were quite good.

We were in Don Khon for a couple of days and visit Lao Long for lunch. It is one of the nicer looking meal venues. So much for looks as the service was appalling. The server took a long time to take our order then disappeared for 30 minutes. When he reappeared with no food, we asked and soon was the reply. Quite a while longer the food arrived and was passable. This was Lao food, similar to Thai and should take about 5 minutes. The restaurant was not busy. Crazy. We saw other customers receive similar service. Ugh.
