Rooms are clean and air conditioning works well! Pool is wonderful to swim in. Everyone was friendly and helpful! I have known the Playa de Cortes for 50 + years. We used to stay at the Miramar next door but go to the bar at the Playa because it was so lovely. The food is okay, really enjoyed the Veracruzano Veracuzan a fish filet with Veracruz sauce. Very well done!Raul and Gabriel are thoughtful and friendly! You may want to take your own soft sheets as theirs are rough, but the ambiance is great! Older hotel being taken care of. Hand carved bar and four large hand carved wood depictions of the conquistadores. Been there for over 50 years! Amazing! Such a joy to go back and relive my childhood of my father and Auntie Bobbie, who are both gone now, and bring home pictures to share with my mother.

Room tip: Small beach area, but great dock to sit on and watch the ocean. Also great pool! We had a first floor room at end of pool. It was a great location.

We'll definitely be back. We got a Junior Suite on the end of the suites building, so for $77 we had two balconies, the largest facing the cove and the smaller one overlooking the gardens. Fabulous views, worth the price. "Suite" didn't mean a separate bedroom, it meant a large room with sitting area and the two queen beds. The bathroom had hot water, the toilet and shower separate from the sink area. We were there the second week in March, just before spring breakers and the holy week crowds, so the hotel was very peaceful. Everything was clean and working. Mexican beds tend to be hard; I travel with ensolite as a mattress topper just in case, but these were softer than most, no ensolite needed. The location was great for us:, in the Miramar neighborhood, primarily Mexicans at the hotel and in the local restaurants, away from the traffic of Guaymas and the tourist scene in San Carlos We loved the spaciuos and beautiful hotel grounds and all the birds. The weather in early March is perfect for the beach, but the water is pretty cold, approx 67F. If you want to spend long periods in the water eg snorkeling, you might want a wetsuit.

Room tip: Junior suites on the ends of the building have both ocean and garden views, and a sitting area. See my review for more details, MindaJ

This is an old beautiful hotel located right on a bay of the Sea of Cortez. It is an old Spanish styled hotel built in the 1930's and decorated with some old Spanish antiques. There were lots of weddings there on the weekends we were there. The beds are hard and the hotel needs a facelift but it has lots of charm.

Room tip: Make sure you don't get rooms near the lobby. Weddings will keep you up at night. Ask for rooms on the far side by the bungalows. Also, get a top floor- the floors are this when guests are above.

Hotel Playa de Cortes is Mexico of my youth. Some of the details like hot water or burnt out light bulbs is just a reminder you are in Mexico. No problema....poco tiempo. But the best part is the hotel on the whole. It's charm, the view, and location is perfect. Just grab a drink, walk across the pool area down onto the pier, and watch a sunset. Life can't get any better.

Room tip: All the economy pool side rooms are large with two queen beds. Suites are in the newer area nearer to the sea.

We have stayed in numerous hotels of Mexico, but this had to be the worst. Upon check in, we found that the toilet would not flush. ( To their credit, a repairman was sent quickly. ) water pressure was miserably low, with hot water taking a lengthy time to arrive. The beds were very heard, plus the noise that continued until 2:30 AM put to rest any thought of sleep.
There was running, loud talking, and laughter that went on just outside our room, which was near enough to the office for the receptionist to have heard the noise, but nothing was done. At 11:00PM someone actually pounded on our door, and that was accompanied by laughter. Had we spoken adequate Spanish, we might have prevailed upon the folks to quiet down. We plan Guaymas again, but never this place.

Room tip: Just be very specific with your room requirements.
