Spent 3 nights in the Playa...had a wonderful room in front ,right on the water...having lived in guaymas and attending wedding receptions in the 80s and 90s...it has been a historical place for people from Arizona and states in the southwest...time has caught up with the Playa, but one has to see see what it once was....it is still the same so you need to adapt to that...I didn't eat there, only breakfast but it was OK..we were alone with the waiter and it was very comfortable..they were serving breakfasts in the bar which has some famous carvings from a gringo from Wisconsin...I am not here to comment on the staff or other things..one has to know the history of this hotel..the owners, and famous people who have stayed there and knew the owner Cesar and has stayed in the family for years...you can see former presidents displayed inth entrance...the pretty is laden with saguaro and other desert plants....I have a great admiration for this place and if you are in guaymas go see it...maybe you will spend a few days

Pulled in after a long drive from Phoenix. It was a very authentic place for the night. The pool was lovely, room basic and view great. We ate breakfast here, it was fine. It being June, there were tons of mosquitos in our room, but we put a towel under the door and it worked fine.

The grounds and hotel were stunning. We really enjoyed our room. The ocean view was breathtaking. All of the hotel staff were courteous and helpful. I will definitely go back again! We went in February so the weather was not conducive to swimming but we enjoyed the quiet time with little or no tourists.

This hotel may have history, but it's just not worth it for the tiny amount of charm that clings desperately to this horrible hotel with a view of the sea.

The first major problem is that the hotel placed business guests directly in front of a the very large outdoor patio behind the hotel where a massive quinceañera party started late and continued until 3am. They could have planned a bit and proactively given us rooms way over in this other wing where there would have been a lot of noise, but they didn't bother. Their attitude was like, this noise is your problem, deal with it. I'm talking professional concert level noise with massive speakers and amps. I got only a few hours of sleep that night it ruined me all next day.

The second major problem is that a few of my Mexican colleagues who were swimming in the hotel pool one night were essentially threatened by some random guy who walked up to them, asking where another guy had run to, because he wanted to kill him. In Mexico this translates to very sketchy, freaky cartel riskiness, and they were terrified. They ran and hid in their room and tried to call reception, and no one from the hotel every answered. Super sketchy. No body showed itself the next morning, but it totally freaked out our entire group.

Lastly, all the rooms were rather grotty and in disrepair. If this hotel were sold to someone who appreciated the history and renovated it, then it would be awesome. But at this point, you're better off staying at the nice new Holiday Inn Express nearby, which I thought about longingly multiple times during my horrible stay in Guaymas.

Room Tip: If you must stay here, ask lots of questions about events and ask for a room in the 'new' wing furthest away from reception.

This very nice hotel is located right on the beach, with beautiful views, easy access via Miramar. They have from regular inexpensive hotel rooms to suites and bungalows. Nice swimming pool. Breakfast is excellent and tasty. The service is great too.
