I enjoyed my overnight stay here because it was good value for money, not expensive and the building is absolutely beautiful inside. If this was run as a small luxury boutique hotel, it would be breathtaking. The decoration, furniture and paintings are kept in a museum like state. Beautiful. The rooms are decorated in a quaint charming manner fitting to the rest of the hotel. The service is what you expect from the rate. Its just over a hundred dollars for the room and the staff are friendly but they do not offer the service of a 5 star hotel, they don´t claim it either. So if you accept the service and food will be average, but want to stay in the heart of this city, in a beautiful setting you will have a very good stay here. Its a matter of knowing what you are getting for your money and appreciating the good.

Room Tip: make sure you have an ´outside´room, otherwise your window looks to the inside of the hotel.

Luxurious colonial lobby with live piano daily. Rooms are spacious. I appreciate bathrobes. I love rooms with balconies despite noisy streets. soundproof windows worked well for me. I am not a regular customer because other nearby hotels offer better value - Alameda and Soledad - one less and one more than Virreyes.

Don't miss their restaurant! Good food good service.

We have never stayed at this hotel, but have enjoyed drinks and appetizers in their sidewalk restaurant. Terrific Salsa Verde made with Cerrato pepper, and the red salsa is very good, too. We had their sample appetizers for two, which had both sauces, and we enjoyed it very much. Good margaritas, and attentive service. Good spot to watch the street scene from a more tranquil advantage.

At the Hotel Virrey you are going to travel in time back a couple of centuries. First of all you are located right in the most important plaza of Morelia. City that happens to have the most intresting heritage. Rooms are nice and spacious. Most ammenities are there. Probably the highlight was the viewy to the cathedral and breakfast with live piano in a ballroom.

Lovely location but definitely ask for a room that does not face the street or square. Even a room without windows or with a terrible view is preferable to one that opens to the street. The noise from a local restaurant is rage-level high volume until 10:30 M-Th and all night on weekends.
The older, stately woman at reception was pointedly un-helpful, cold, and graceless, but everyone else was delightful. The restaurant staff were outstanding and clearly wanted us to have a great time.

Room Tip: Stay away from street facing rooms unless you can unplug your hearing aids.
