If you want to visit places like Altdorf but can't find a hotel at your price or with car parking then consider this hotel. There is a car park and the rooms are delightful.
We didn't use public transport but suspect there is little except the cable car to go higher up. There are plenty of walks sign-posted nearby
The hotel has its own restaurant and also caters for large groups in their meeting rooms. One of the larger rooms in used for breakfast which gives a nice airy feel and some views over surrounding areas.

If you have your own wheels then ok otherwise not very good - there is no bus connection after 7 PM and the nearest train/bus station is a good 30 mins walk. Obviously this is a countryside budget hotel for workers and military members. Rooms are nicely renovated, beds very comfortable (I did appreciated really long duvet which is not of standard in much pricier hotels!) breakfast very basic but sufficient.

We arrived late hence no fallback. We had booked a twin bed room via booking .com and was accepted.
At arrival we were told 'there is a problem; you have booked a double room but only for one person. It can be corrected by paying extra for the second person' We felt confronted and had no choice but pay the extra. The room was in an outbuilding. No WiFi and not even a power point anywhere to charge the iPad or phone.
The staff were friendly enough. Having driven 7000km around Europe this was our worst experience. This was August 15 2014

Room Tip: Be aware of what you book.

Not many choices in Attinghausen and this one was very nice. We stayed in the dorm with small bath down the hall (and were the only ones there in late August). Used the pool area for resting and eating our Coop-bought dinner, although the hotel dining room seemed to be popular place. And although we seemed to be the only guests, the hosts provided a very nice Swiss breakfast in lovely setting.

We were staying on the ruhetag so didn't eat at the restaurant but the hotel were very friendly and looked after us very well.

Swimming pool is very refreshing with a good current to swim against.

All in all it was excellent value and though it was amongst the cheapest hotels we stayed in it was much nicer than many others on our trip.
