The Marais Poitevin is a beautiful area and has a wonderfully 'undiscovered' feeling in spite of its obviously popularity with cyclists and boating enthusiasts.
Les Volets Bleus provides a welcoming and comfortable base from which to explore. Linda and Mike have thought of everything necessary for a carefree stay. They live next door so are on-hand with advice, and very friendly, but never intrusive.
We stayed there in week one of a two week break and this was a wonderful start to the holiday.

We have been very pleased to meet Linda and Mike
and have enjoyed a very friendly and cosy
stay at "Les volets bleus" in Arçais. The area is
indeed worth the visit and beautiful,
with many opportunities for discovery and canoeing in the "Green Venice".
Linda and Mike's house and garden was part of the pleasure
during this holiday time.

We stay at Les Volets Bleus every year and love it!
Set in the heart of the beautiful and very traditional French village, Arcais. Les Volets Bleus is beautifully furnished and has a pretty garden with decking to enjoy days lounging in the sun and al fresco evening meals.
Enjoy walks, cycle rides and boat trips around the marsh of the Marais Poitevin (that is right on your doorstep), a haven for wildlife that will be loved bird watchers, artists, and photographers.
The owners are wonderful hosts and extremely knowledgeable of the local area (and wildlife! There isn't a bird species they cannot identify). If you would like some tips on where to dine or visit, they will be able to suggest a fantastic range.
Already looking forward to our next visit!

We arrived and my extended family: me (granddad) my son, daughter-in-law and grandson (aged 4) immediately congratulated me on my choice. I do the planning. On the day we arrived, there was a vide-grenier (village-wide boot sale) with bar under cover. Apart from the value-for-money beer and essential baguettes and croissants, we bought two essential hats - Temp 36 C. The accommodation was really nice and well appointed: cool, comfortable beds, spacious lounge, television, wifi, fully equipped kitchen and so on. Everything was provided - down to dishwasher tablets and loo roll - suitably backfilled by us, of course. We met the owners, who live adjacent, and were made extremely welcome. The local Co-op and boulangerie met our morning eating needs. Bigger supermarkets are within 10km and will meet broader needs. Neighbours are friendly and welcoming. Helps very much if you have some (even basic) French. The place was central to the Marais Poitevin. The canals, punting etc are right at hand. We drove to La Rochelle and Ile de Re and several local places. Great time. You can test the Vendee (very recommended) if you start off early and are prepared for a late return. The Marais itself is delightful. It is a long way from the Eurotunnel Terminal so do not think you can get here in a day in comfort. We stopped overnight Sat/Sun at Les Ponts de Ce - about 8 hrs from Frethun, with stops, and another 2 hrs to the gite. I must encourage everyone to stay here. My second time in the area. Highly recommended.
