These 3 cenotes were literally right in front of Barcelo Maya grand resort. That's where my wife and I stayed for 2 years in a row. So, it was very convenient.

We paid for the guided underwater cave tour + access to the fifth cenote. Our tour guide, Sandy, was great. Very friendly and effortlessly managed the tour in Spanish and English, switching back and forth without making the tour cumbersome.

The underwater cave was our favorite part. The water was crystal clear and beautiful. Be warned--if you are claustrophobic you may not enjoy the underwater cave.

Cenotes 1, 2, and 4 were to me, not particularly impressive after seeing the underwater cave. While nice to see, they were not places I really wanted to swim. Cenote 3 was very pretty, with crystal clear water and nice hammocks/seating areas to relax. Cenote 5 requires an extra fee and is very pretty -- the advantage too is you have a limited number of people there at the same time. If you are strapped for cash, skip Cenote 5 and enjoy Cenote 3.

The tour included a lunch at the restaurant. My boyfriend loved the chicken. As a vegetarian, they offered steam vegetables with or without cheese which were palatable but nothing to write home about.

I have been in several cenotes in the area and this one is the best that I have experienced. What was nice about this park is that it consists of 5 cenotes – some of which are connected by underground tunnels. The other standout are the facilities. The cenotes are extremely well maintained. I witnessed park workers submerged in the cenotes in scuba gear brushing the algae off of the rocks at the bottom of the cenotes to assist in maintaining the crystal-clear appearance of the water. There is a relatively new dining area/restaurant in the middle of the park which is an excellent place to take a break and get a good meal. The changing facilities and lockers are well-maintained and top notch. Although there are 3 cenotes experience packages available, I would definitely recommend the package that comes with a guide for three reasons. First, the guide will take you to cenotes that are not available without a guide—and those guided cenotes are the more interesting and unique. Second, your guide will be extremely helpful in assisting you to navigate your way through the cenotes. Third, you will learn a great deal of history of the region and develop a great deal of knowledge around cenote formation that you would not have been aware of by simply visiting a cenote. A special mention goes out to a particularly excellent guide, Emanuel (“ el Chino” as he is also called). Also, it was great activity to do to get a break from the sun for a day. Based on other cenotes that I had seen previously seen in the region, It was quite a refreshing change to walk through the park under shaded paths. I did not know a cenote was supposed to be as nice as the one maintained at Kantun-Chi. A great deal of attention to detail to the grounds and customer's experience makes this a must do activity while in the area.
