This resort is set on a wonderful beach where you can walk for a long distance. It is clean, the staff are very friendly and helpful and most speak very good English, the food is great and there are activities to do all day long by the pool or on the beach if you are interested. There are three pools (kids, adults only and a main pool). The rooms are fine - ours had a comfortable king sized bed. Two a la carte restaurants can be booked for evening dining (Italian and Mexican) and both are fabulous.
Behind the resort, there are great paved walking/biking paths and a small commercial section that included a Starbucks, car rental business, bank and pharmacy. The area is newer and cleaner than nearby Puerto Vallarta.
They have recently removed the palapas from the beach at the Occidental and replaced them with palm trees which don't provide great shade all day so you might want to take your own beach umbrella to use. We actually went to Walmart there and purchased a beach umbrella to use while we were there.
Overall I would recommend this resort which isn't overly large as a great place to enjoy a sun vacation. It is right on the beach.More
