Our stay was with Royal Club/Premium Membership, the Occidental resorts on Pacific Coast employees/managers seem to not understand the Premium Level Membership and cannot instill in the employees the High Quality Level of Service Expected by those members, understandably the transition from an existing beach resort to a Premium level is a challenge. Compared of the Gulf Riviera Premium Level experience there is no comparison on the Pacific Coast Resorts. For general food a good value, general service very good. Recommend employees be motivated to create a better customer service experience.

Room Tip: Resort requires better rooms for Premium Level and add Sun Umbrella's to Premium Level Room Balc...

This is an amazing stay in pv. The staff at the occidental are wonderful. Courteous. And helpful. From check in to the royal Club our stay has been amazing. Jesus and Ricardo the wait staff at the Royal club have been marvelous. Also helpful were Avaran. Luis Alberto. Chef Luis angel was an excellent presenter of the food and the taste was amazing. Beatrice and katia were wonderful at the reception desk. They go out of their way for us and have been wonderful hosts. We were here in march and we liked it so much we came back. They are doing extensive renovations to the property adding restaurant space and redoing the serving area for snacks. The first club guys are great. Jose and Raul and Marcos were great serving wonderful drinks. Always with a smile. We enjoy the private pool area. The wait staff there are amazing. The room was gorgeous. Modern. With comfortable beds. Frig and microwave. We catch the bus into pv for less than 20 pesos. Then we catch the cab back for ease.

We stayed for 7 days, 6 nights in the middle of September. The resort is smaller, which we like as we took our four year old daughter. The staff is overall, amazing! We were incredibly impressed with Gonzalo Lopez, a server at the pool and Jesus Rodriguez, a server at the main buffet during dinner. The food is good, the resort is very nice, the ocean access is great! However, a couple of incidents - when we got to our room, we noticed a weird odor in the bathroom, when they called to ask how the room was, I let them know but the issue was not resolved. It rained pretty hard one night and water seeped into our room from the hallway, making a huge puddle in the foyer of the room, bathroom and headed towards the bedroom. When I called to report it, someone was there in a matter of minutes however she was very angry and hadn't dried up all the water. When I pointed it out to her, she became even more angry and cleaned it but she was not happy about it. Then there was an issue with the toilet not flushing, we called downstairs, they fixed it within a couple of hours but made a huge mess and did not clean it up. I was going to call but at that point, I worried they'd think we were just huge complainers. Lastly, the air conditioner kept going out. Reported it three different times, as it would work, then stop and so forth. They totally fixed it, but with the heat and humidity, it's not pleasant to be without a/c. Most of our concerns were addressed and overall, we really enjoyed our stay. Lastly, they are building a new restaurant and the noise from the construction would start around 7 and sometimes go on until 1 am. Hope these maintenance issues are addressed more regularly to avoid having the guests go through this.

My wife and I came for a last-minute 3 day honeymoon trip. It was a great experience and we had a lot of fun. Overall, the hotel and amenities are great but not perfect. I say this because it is not a huge hotel, just one pool. They're even constructing new pools. But the restaurants and food are great, really good. So is the service and the drinks. Our waiter at the Los Olivos restaurant was named Guadalupe Salazar, and he is the best guy I met in Mexico. He tells the greatest jokes. So if you're looking for a good time, come here, you won't be disappointed. Plus, prices are great. HOWEVER, avoid raining season, because that makes the crystal clear ocean brown and dark.

The Grand Occidental Nuevo Vallarta is one of many resorts part of a vacation club throughout Mexico. In Puerto Vallarta, its located in the recently upgraded area of Nayarit with a beautiful, long, golden, and clean beach. The hotel itself is large and very open aired, which gives it a surreal persona. Premium club members are met at the front desk and escorted to their own private check in area close to the beach, where they can get refreshments, snacks, and get checked in - its a lengthy process. This small clubhouse is exclusive to premium club members and also has its own small library, private restrooms, sunbathing areas, concierge, and hot-tub.

The hotel is very richly decorated with lots of choices of where guests can sit and relax, watch TV, read, or enjoy the scenery. The complex is surrounded with beautiful well coifed tropical landscaping. There is one large swimming pool for all ages. There, you get beach towels, comfortable chaise lounges, umbreallas, and poolside services for drinks and snacks. There is another pool for club members only, with its own hot tub. It also has full service. The buffet is high quality; but, does not change significantly from day to day, which may get tedious after a few days there. There is an Asian restaurant and an Italian Restaurant, of which I never dined in. It's worth noting that reservations are necessary and men must wear long pants - no exceptions. The wines served throughout are mediocre at best and always served cold, regardless of type.

There is a bar located centrally where you can watch sports on one of many good TV's. As a large family we watched the NFL Play-offs and had a great time. To order a Dominos Pizza, asks the front desk to help you. The gift shop is perfect for forgotten hygiene products and sundries, souvenirs, and tobacco products (good cigars.) There is an activity concierge to help you find something for everyone outside of the resort. Nightly, there are live shows on stage there. There is a kids play area where staff members can look after the little ones - it seemed secure enough. Also, the spa offers good massages, albeit a little expensive for Mexico.

The beach is beautiful and clean with lots of chairs, towels, service, and umbrellas. Occasional vendors will peddle their wares. You can catch a ride on boats to fish, or jetski, or parasail. Across the street from the front of the hotel is a very nice shopping mall with a grocery store. You can find just about anything there, including starbucks, dominos, mcdonalds, etc. There is a public marina where fishing and sailing boats may be chartered. There are banks and a Catholic Church, which Sunday services in English and Spanish.

The rooms are adequate and amenities good. A suite is very nice and spacious; but, your phone may not work there. There is a Mexican food cafe near the pool which has decent food at night; but, the lunch is aweful. Overall, its a good safe place to spend time with kids, parents, grandparents, and friends.

Room Tip: Higher is better.
