Staying in the area we visited this pub to eat two nights running. We absolutely loved it. It’s a “proper pub” - cosy, warm and traditional. But the food is fabulous, can’t recommend it highly enough. We had two amazing meals, everything was delicious - game terrine, cullen skink, haunch of venison steak, oxtail stew. All meals were piping hot too and bar staff lovely and friendly. A great pub.

Although we live a few miles down the road we don't visit The Packhorse inn often enough. This trip, was to celebrate a birthday with family and we enjoyed mains and deserts for four with the highlights being the venison and chorizo burger and the bangers and mash. Thornbridge Ales on draught are a bonus as these are always great quality and the variety of flavours are excellent...... mental note to visit again soon.

Top tip - the packhorse is a pub made up of 3 cosy rooms so if you want to have a meal I would recommend you book in advance. Enjoy !

Everything a good pub should be. It was crowded when we arrived to take up our pre-booked table for dinner but thinned out a little and was very cosy and comfortable. The menu was on a blackboard near the bar and offered a good choice of dishes which were well cooked and presented. Definitely worth a return visit.

It is extremely rare to find a excellent place that delivers every time. We now visit the pub on a regular basis - mainly for lunch on a Sunday. Booking is essential as it is always popular and full. The welcome is always friendly and the service professional. The menu is varied and everything we have ever had is cooked perfectly to a high standard and is always tasty and well presented. Definitely in my Top 5 in the UK.

Definitely book here for an excellent hearty lunch or dinner! We booked an hour and a half ahead of visiting only to find out we had the last table! My husband had the venison burger and myself the braised beef with mash and vegetables. It was all very tasty and we would have loved to have tried dessert but were far too full! A great position too, not far from the viaduct from where you can join the Monsal trail.
