Even if you're not driving to Jasper, it's worth driving up some of the Icefields Parkway from Banff. The lakes and mountains are gorgeous, especially Bow Lake and Peyto Lake.

When visiting the ice falls, be sure you go when the coach trips are not there to ensure you have quiet time to contemplate the beauty of this wonderful place.

You're literally surrounded by mountains on this road and you have some beautiful mountains to admire from Lake Louise all the way to Jasper. It's really worth doing.

This was probably the fourth time I've been to Banff but only the first time I've seen this section of the park. We came through Banff from Jasper and the sections of the drive on either side of the Columbia Icefields is the best forty miles I've ever seen. Towering granite peaks on either side fronted by vast valleys, meadows and rivers. We managed to turn a two hour drive into a four hour drive because we repeatedly stopped to take a photo or to explore a nearby attraction.

Awesome drive from Lake Louise to Jasper....so many beautiful sights. This was a highlight of our Canada trip. Waterfalls, lakes, mountains, glaciers and a big black bear that walked out on the road in front of the car. Biggest bear we have ever seen! So much to see, took us all day. Got to Jasper and had a ice dinner and headed back towards Banff. So many photo ops!
