This was an experience of a lifetime. We took the Ice Explorer out to the glacier and walked on the glacier. There are several glaciers seen from there. We learned that the glacier we walked on was 800 feet deep. Also there is a three way continental divide on top of the mountain there.

On the opposite side of the Discovery Centre about 2 km down is a small parking area. You can get out and hike to the Toe of the Athabasca Glacier. Its not a long hike, but it is a steep hike at the beginning. Well worth the time and effort.

We took the shuttle ride from the Columbia Icefield Discovery Center (Lauren and Geo Paige were our guides and drivers), and as we rode to the glacier, we were well informed by our drivers about the glacier. We had an opportunity to walk around the glacier and took some great pictures. A nice trip.

We enjoyed our trip on the sno coach driven by Ben. He was funny and friendly and very informative about the glacier. It's very dusty on the ride down and onto the glacier . We were given 20 mins on the glacier, stunning scenery, but very cold so wrap up warmly. It's easy to see he much the glacier has retreated over time. The visitor centre was well equipped but very busy, especially the cafe.
