We had two nights here for AUD$240/night, which makes it expensive for us. Great location in Vancouver in the lovely 'West End' residential area which I think is probably the pick of all the places to stay in Vancouver. (Next time we might try somewhere a bit more affordable in the area.) Barclay is a gorgeous house with some very nice touches, including the very classy breakfast, but we found our room (Mountain) really, really tiny - would be better with a double rather than queen bed in it - and the private hallway down which you walk to the bathroom is potentially public, as it doesn't have a lockable door on it. I did like the bathroom with door opening onto the old fire escape! Quirky and nicely appointed, but not worth the price, I feel - might get better value lashing out for the Peak. Be warned, the wireless seems a bit temperamental so don't expect to rely on it. Do visit Raincity Grill at English Bay, about 15 minutes pleasant walk from Barclay House; an institution which remains unspoilt, genuine, really good, and with one of the few restaurant views in this part of town. We had a lovely couple of hours over drinks on the veranda at the Hotel Sylvia as well, a Vancouver instituion.
