Description: Established as the second location of the Aburi Brand in North America, Minami Restaurant offers a combination of Japanese and West Coast cuisine in a comfortable, rustic atmosphere. Minami presents the Aburi take on red meats and seafood dishes to enjoy with your choice of sake, wine, or specialty cocktail. From intimate gatherings with family and friends to professional corporate events, our welcoming atmosphere with amazing cuisine and impeccable service creates a lasting dining experience. Aburi Sushi is a corporate symbol of our company, enjoyed by local Vancouverites and international travellers alike. Minami is excited to introduce the innovative concept of Aburi Sushi appetizers. This combination of our shari (sushi rice), cooked using a unique traditional method, and our flame searing technique has turned sushi into a truly exciting culinary experience. At Minami, Aburi sushi is best enjoyed as a zensai (appetizer) course and, paired perfectly alongside your favourite beverage, sets the stage for the rest of your Aburi dining experience. Our entrée menu places an emphasis on our beef, poultry, and seafood cuisine. Our dedicated team of chefs perfects our entrées not only by focusing on the protein, but also by pairing it with fresh, seasonal vegetables in order to complement the rich flavour of the meat. We insist that a great entrée must be accompanied by an equally great side. Minami is the sister restaurant of Miku Restaurant.

My mother and I were very happy with their delicious sushi roles, tempura prawns, etc...after a big day out. It was rather fusion than authentic, but very nicely done and we loved it so much. I was a little disappointed with umeshu (plum wine) served soooooooo little (like just a few licks and gone) for the price. It that a Canadian way of serving Japanese wine?? We were surprised with their loud, club-like music, but saw many fellow, well-dressed grownups, many couples and small groups, and we did enjoy atmosphere too!

This is our go to place when we visit Vancouver. Yes the price point can be high. Expect to pay about $200.00 for three including drinks and tips. How ever if you are a sushi fan you won't be disappointed. When there try the YK 3 or it's other name Yu Junmai Nama Genshu sake. It's made in Richmond and is very smooth and compliments the food.

I honestly could not say that the food was bad or the sashimi was bad, but at the same time, the food was also not excellent. There is a bit too much Western influence into these Japanese dishes. We tried a variety of dishes but in the end, I felt that the sashimi, especially the special BC spot prawns, was the best dish. The seared sushi dishes were just average. The service was good and the waitresses were very friendly and well-intentioned, but they were not too knowledgeable about Japanese food. The restaurant needs to work harder. If you are a Japanese food lover leaning towards the authentic style, I think you will be disappointed. BTW, $5 for a bowl of miso soup was really too much.

Quick vacation to Vancouver and our concierge recommended Minami as a must for dinner. We were surely not disappointed. The quality, preparation, and presentation of the food choices exceeded our expectations. We specifically enjoyed Aburi preparations of the sashimi and sushi. Full bar and outdoor patio seating. Highly recommend.
