Westin has the best location for skiing in Whistler, but don’t look for a luxurious hotel experience. If you set your expectation accordingly and are willing to overlook a few things, you will have a great time like we did.

The best feature of the Westin resort is its convenient location - right by the Whistler Village gondola (100 steps) that goes up the Whistler mountain. 100 steps more is the Excalibur gondola that goes up the Blackcomb mountain. You can ski back from either mountain. At the end of the day, there is a Westin ski valet tent at the bottom of the run where you can hand your skis so you don’t need to carry them back yourself.

Whistler Kids snow school, adult and private lessons all meet by the Whistler Village gondola, therefore very close to the hotel as well.

Second best feature is that CanSki rental shop is right on site which makes equipment rental very simple. Do try to go during non-peak hours as the line can be long during high season. Skis must be stored at ski valet and guests must take their boots to their room.

In terms of the hotel itself, it is a slightly sub-par Westin experience compared to other Westins we have stayed at. Two issues to highlight:

1) Room is adequate, but small. A deluxe studio with two queen beds is really snug. A family of four can fit in, but you will need to be very organized in the room. The furniture seems oddly sized with tiny bedside tables, but two huge sofa chairs that take up valuable floor space. Studio is equipped with a kitchenette, but hard to see how to cook in that small space with no place to eat. The bathroom is ok, but looks outdated especially the tub and the shower area.

2) Front desk service needs improving. Being SPG platinum member, there was lack of recognition at check in. At check out, there was no “how was your stay?” or “thank you for staying with us”, or an envelope for the bill. It seems the front desk just wants to send you on your way when there was no other guest waiting in line. I thought the hotel missed an important opportunity to make guests feel welcomed and valued (some of staff we encountered were better trained and more professional).

My husband and I stayed at Westin Resort and Spa for two nights. This was our second trip to Whistler. We picked Westin since it was located right next to the Whistler Gondola and little further than center of Whistler Village.

What I was really impressed was EVERY SINGLE one of staff whom we were served by were very friendly and very efficient. We were served by three front desk clerks, two bellhops, three valet parking attendants, one concierge, two room service staff, one housekeeping staff and three ski valet service staffs. And every one of them was very friendly and very efficient.

This was the best hotel experience I have ever had. We will definitely stay at Westin next time we visit Whistler.

We stay here during ski season and during the summer with out 2 young boys. This place is always amazing. The rooms have been recently renovated and look great. The room service is excellent and a good selection of food. Staff is informative and friendly. Love their courtesy car service in and around the area. Location is excellent for skiing. There pool area and hot tubs are very nice but often get very crowded during the busy season. One of our favorite resorts.

We've been going to Whistler annually for over 10 years and Westin is our preferred place to stay. First, location, location, location. If you want a quiet property off the village stroll yet still close to the lifts and action this is the perfect hotel. Rather than being in the middle of all the noise and action this hotel is off to the side but still right next to the village gondola. It's hard to describe, look at a village map and you'll see what I mean.

Second, feel the of the space. The lobby with fireplace is large and open compared to most small and cramped lobbies in other Whistler hotels and is a nice place to relax. Great pool and hot tub area next to decent workout facility. The rooms are all equipped with full kitchens (half fridge, micro, oven, cooktop, dishwasher), fireplace, nice sized bathrooms. Some here complain about the rooms being outdated and while that is somewhat true, the rooms are getting refreshed. The EAST tower is done while the WEST tower (our preferred tower due to convenience to the lobby, pool and lounge) will be completed this year after ski season. The rooms have the typical Westin Heavenly beds and bath amenities. Overall the hotel space and rooms are kept spotless which I find amazing considering the beating the place gets with ski equipment and bikes being dragged around 24/7.

Third, sfaff. In years past the staff, including Management, seemed to be a revolving door with service being hit and miss. This seems to have stabilized some and service has gotten better over the last few years.

For those that logged complaints about the cancellation policy, welcome to the world of ski resorts. That's what travel insurance is for. I recommend anyone traveling to any ski resort buy the inexpensive coverage because cancellation policies are fierce. Basically you can't cancel and this is normal for high demand ski resorts in peak season.

Based on location, room amenities, cleanliness and service we feel the Westin is the premier property in Whistler Village.

Room Tip: Loft or 1 bedroom in West Tower

We stayed here three nights in March and had a great experience. Room was SUPER clean with everything we needed. The hotel / resort was nice and big, with all amenities required. Rentals for the hill were on site, bar was busy and had lots of variety of drinks, and luckily two hot tubs as they were packed. Definitely will go back and the location is the best part.
