All I can say is wow. The Callaghan country is absolutely beautiful and breathtaking. Tucked away 13km up in the Callaghan is the Journeyman Lodge, a beautiful wooden lodge for the outdoor explorer to stay, relax and take in the jaw dropping views. This is a perfect destination to get our and snow shoe and cross country ski in the back country.

We took the opportunity to back country snowboard in the mountains after a large snowfall. When we arrived back at the lodge we were greeted by the staff who made us feel like we were at home. We were taken to our rooms to relax and then invited into the common area with the other guests for appies and drinks before dinner. We were then invited down to the dining room where we had a beautiful 4 course meal with wine that we were allowed to bring up with us.

Lastly the food prepared by the Chefs are second to none. Up at the lodge you are served a 5 star meal to remember.

After dinner we were able to sit around the wood fireplace in the common area to read, relax and mingle.

The Journeyman Lodge also has a wooden sauna a short trek down the hill towards the creek where we are able to sit, relax and take in even more of the Callaghan's views!

I highly recommend the Journeyman Lodge to everyone and anyone who enjoys jaw dropping views, outdoor adventure (snow shoeing, cross country skiing) or a relaxing spot for the weekend! The staff are professional, courteous and always willing to help with your adventure for the next day in the Callaghan!

Check it out!!

I stayed for a night at the Journeyman Lodge this winter, everything about it was amazing. It's in the most beautiful location! So peaceful & quiet. The food is insanely good! Not what you'd expect from a backcountry lodge. It's very impressive. The XC ski in to the lodge is not as bad as some might think.. definitely worth it when you get there! Great feeling of accomplishment! (I'd XC skied once before making the trip in...) And if you backcountry ski/board... bring your gear because it's the best powder around! The whole team (at the lodge & at the base) are top-notch. Great place!

Room Tip: The superior queen rooms are awesome!

Fantastic experience, great off-the-grid lodge with good food and friendly helpful staff. Stayed 3 nights. XC skied and snowshoed. Made the mistake of not bringing my alpine touring gear. Food is pretty good and excellent if you consider the setting. 15K XC ski in is totally do-able with good grooming. Lodge generates it's own power and filters water so limited hours of operation for both. Limited cellular connectivity but possible if you really need it. So much terrain so close and accessible for winter pursuits. Wood fire sauna with river nearby is super. Pool table, ping pong, darts, and games available. Shared bathroom was totally chill and we didn't run into any sharing issues that can occur in hostels and auberges. More snow and better quality than Whistler down the road. It snowed hard for 4 days so we didn't get to see the surrounding range or peaks but will be back for a bluebird.

Room Tip: All our good options. 3rd floor rooms were quiet and dark

Stayed at Journeyman for 5 days. There were something like 80 fresh cms of snow when we arrived, something that is very good news for backcountry skiers! We had a great stay, climbing over 1000m every day to ski the slopes south of the lodge. I don't understand why this place is not busier, it was truly excellent, right down to the cook who came and rode with us. Food was good, rooms are cramped but all you need. Great boys weekend, and the snow was super epic.
