It's relatively inexpensive but I wish we had stayed somewhere else. Firstly the room we had was old and smelt terribly of smoke. The receptionist told me people ignore the no smoking. They should be charged the threatened fine then.

Secondly (and not the hotel's fault necessarily) inconsiderate people letting their teenage kids have races up the hallway at past midnight. What can you say, some people don't care about anyone other than themselves.

Had to stay here a night after a booking screw up. Well appointed room and clean, etc. - but smelt of stale smoke.
Handy to Durden Castle but not much else - long way from any action at night. Wouldn't stay again.

We recently stayed at the Admiral Inn Hamilton. This hotel offers good value accommodation and is centrally located but is in need of renovations. The carpets in our double queen room were filthy and hallway carpets were gross. If you suffer from allergies, this is not the place for you. The air conditioner filters hadn't been cleaned in some time which resulted in a difficult sleep. We had breakfast in the hotel which was good.

We booked here because our favourite place was booked solid. It turned out to be a good choice. The rates were moderate for Hamilton. It was kept VERY clean. The restaurant was good for breakfast. Most of our room had been newly renovated and was stylish. The mattresses were good and we got a sound sleep. Most of the time it was quiet. As usually happens, there were small children staying here who were noisy but not unduly so. This was not the Inn's fault. The staff was quite efficient. One night, we had a noisy group in the next room and the front desk quieted them down very efficiently. The bathroom was newly renovated. You can walk across York Blvd to the Dundurn Castle grounds. You can also walk through the nearby historic Hamilton Cemetery (more interesting than it sounds).

On the negative side, the Inn is next to a noisy intersection and the traffic noise was bothersome but not at night. Our clock radio wouldn't work and the replacement one that they gave us also didn't work. The carpet in the hallway was tired looking and stained. Part of the popcorn ceiling in our room had fallen down and this area was simply painted over. None of these things was a deal-breaker for us. We are going back again in September.

We were in town for a tournament and this was the only place left in town to book at for a group reservation. Rates were extremely high for what you get. Rooms are average, with no special amenities. Beds vary from room to room, some are soft and comfortable, others are pushing 15 years old and show stains and lots of use. Our A/C unit in our room cooled the room however all condensation leaked out of the bottom onto the floor. Upon returning to the room after dinner there was a huge puddle (almost 3 feet in diameter) on the floor and under the bed. Staff was reluctant to assist in resolving so we threw towels down and left them to soak up any further water. Towels were sopping wet when we checked out and housekeeping didn't even attempt to mop / clean the floor. Another in our party staying on the 2nd floor had a mysterious wet spot between the beds in the room that housekeeping couldn't / wouldn't explain. Again, covering with towels and hoping the out of sight, out of mind mentality worked.
Our shower had a box in the upper right corner that was tiled around, and therefore you couldn't stand up under the water from the shower head without smacking your head on the corner, or having to squat in the shower. Coupled with the terrible water pressure and crappy shower head, you either need to be under 4 feet tall to use the shower reliably, or be a contortionist.
No pool, and in what appeared to be a harmless neighborhood, the hotel doesn't boast anything fancy and is overpriced for what you get.
Do not visit the park across the street, unless that is you are looking for a heroin den, or to be solicited for random sex acts. Lots of graffiti'd benches boast phone numbers and explicit things you can get in the park after dark.
Despite its flaws, its a place to sleep that's right in the heart of downtown Hamilton. Close to restaurants and shops etc. Parking was good, and the restaurant inside smelled good, but we never ate there.
The GM, John, is extremely nice and very helpful, however unfortunately wasn't there when we checked in or issues may have been dealt with properly.
Unless there is nowhere else to stay, this is the place for you.
