We were a group of 15 and got there at 730pm and the place was not even busy, we waited more than half n hour to dry a beer, and to place our order like an hour, and my appetizer came at 10 pm at night. A querer part of the group got there food and finished and all the rest didn't even get there food and just got up and left. I left my paid dessert behind because it would never show up, and the tip was included in the bill which they didn't deserve at all. And they messed up my bill and had to do it 3 times. TERRIBLE SERVICE AND NO COORDINATION AT ALL. JUST A SHAME, NEVER EVER GOING THERE AGAIN.

If a restaurant review were to be based only on the quality of the food served, I'd give The Kasbah a very good rating. However, there's more to a dining experience than the food (although the food quality is very important),

I had the beef souvlaki and it was delicious. (I'd have ordered lamb but they don't serve lamb here.) The meat was served on skewers and it was flavorful and nicely seasoned. It was preceded by a decent salad with greens other than iceberg lettuce, plus onions and cucumbers; nothing particularly special but fine for a starter. The beef skewers were served on a rather large bed of rice, which I liked, with some grilled onions and bell peppers on the side, and a few cubes of roasted potatoes, all of which were good. A small cup of tzatziki was also provided. So the food was quite good and I was happy with it.

However, the other aspects of our visit weren't as good. For one thing, they have one of those two musical-toned devices that sound off any time someone opens a door or passes by a spot with a photocell detector, the kind often used in small stores to alert shopkeepers that someone has come in, chiming "bee-baa" or something like that. I don't know where the detector was located, but it went off constantly during our meal, and got very annoying. Only perhaps 10-15 people entered or left while we were there, but the sound went off many dozens of times.

This might have been easier to ignore if there were some music playing, but there was no music, nothing to enhance the slightly peculiar atmosphere of the dining room. Worse, there's a large overhead garage-style door in the front of the restaurant and it was wide open. This meant that even if you were inside, you heard all the traffic passing by on Dunn St. The other downside is we had a fly or two visit us during our meal, unwanted guests that entered through the large open door. Okay, maybe some people like eating outside, and you can do that here, but for those of us who don't like it, we didn't have a lot of choice.

The other flaw in our experience was that our server wasn't too good at his job. Not that it really matters, because I know that it isn't truly important, but our places were set backwards with the forks on the right and knife on the left. After our glasses were initially filled with water, our server never returned to replenish them. In fact, once the food arrived at our table, we didn't see our server again at all until well after we were done; essentially, we were ignored. The server was polite and friendly, but just didn't seem to know that his job requires more than delivering the food, and he didn't monitor our needs or progress. We had to wait too long to settle our check, and the restaurant was not busy at all when we were there.

The bottom line is this: the food was very good, but there were lots of little annoyances that got in the way and prevented this from being a very good or excellent experience.

There is free parking behind the restaurant.
