We decided to go to Niagara On The Lake (NOTL) on a whim and were able to secure theatre tickets and figured the accommodations would be a challenge. Normally we stay at a B&B however decided to call the Charles Inn which was fully booked, however the extremely helpful booking agent secured us a room at one of their other properties - the Moffat Inn. This small hotel is in an excellent location right on the main street about a block from the Festival Theatre. There is free parking behind the hotel and when we arrived - early - our room was already waiting and ready.
It is obvious that this hotel was two separate buildings at one point but a sunny atrium with the reception desk now joins both sides. We were given our room key and shown to the second floor room. There are steep stairs and I do not think there is an elevator so those with mobility challenges please request a room on the main floor. We were cautioned that the room was 'basic' but I was pleasantly surprised. It was very comfortable and big enough. There was a small entrance hall with large closets and comfy bathrobes. The bed was extremely comfortable and nicely appointed with very good quality bedding. There was a coffee maker in the room and a small fridge.
The bathroom was not huge but it was clean and had shower.
The room was decorated in victorian style which is to be expected in NOTL but it was bright with windows overlooking the back of the property. We stayed here for two nights and I would definitely stay here again. No breakfast was included with our room however, we had a short walk down to the Queen's Landing and had a wonderful breakfast overlooking the yacht club.
The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was simply because it did not have all the amenities on site that would warrant a 5 start and the room was not as spacious. However...... since it is associated with some of the other properties in town guests can make use of the gym and facilites at the Prince of Wales..... without the big $$$.

Room Tip: It's Niagara on the Lake - it's quiet!!! Main floor if you have mobility issues.

*Terrible* customer service. Arrived two hours before the stated check-in time. There were no parking spots and we had to drive around looking for a spot on the street after a long drive. The gentleman at the desk gave us the key for a single room when we had booked a double. Returning to the desk, we were told that there were no more double rooms, although we had a confirmation and were two hours early. After an unpleasant ten minutes we were reluctantly given the room we booked with no explanation for why it had been withheld. Unfriendly, unprofessional, and an overwhelmingly negative start to our first visit to the Shaw Festival. Reading other reviews, there appears to be a pattern of failing to honor confirmed bookings. The room was expensive and far too dear for the treatment we received. Only worth it if you plan a last-minute trip and every other place in town is booked. The one redemption? Breakfast next door was wonderful. Get the waffles.

The Moffat Inn is fairly old, but definitely not shabby. Our deluxe queen was fairly large, with a small frig, two comfy chairs, TV, 3 windows (all with light blocking drapes which closed easily), a Keurig coffee maker (which sadly was on the fritz and did not respond to our coffee making efforts), a small bathroom with a window and closing shades.
The bed was queen size, with a feather mattress bolster, lots of comfy pillows, and a duvet which was just soft enough to be luxurious but not heavy enough to be overwhelming. The linens were crispy and white, white, white. The towels were heavy white and plentiful. The rain head shower was invigorating. But the robes were the best...long, fluffy and pretty wonderful. Which was a good thing, because at 6:00 AM, there was a hotel wide fire alarm, and most of the guests appeared outside in their robes. Even with this "early wake up call" (which was a overheated duct on the roof) the coffee in the lobby, the ease of parking, the great location for easy walking the entire town, all made up for the minor inconvenience. And we got to meet and converse with lots of other guests...none of whom seemed really upset at the inconvenient early morning wake up. (This may have been due to great 70 degree weather.) We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Deluxe queens are larger with more amenities. Worth the few extra $

We have been staying at this hotel since 1990. The owners then (and for the next two decades or so) were a local couple who put heart and soul into the place. It was quirky, but functional -- and good value. Since they retired and sold to the monopolistic Vintage Hotels, the quirkiness has become very irksome. Most distressing is the fact that some of the rooms have a central air-conditioning system that cannot be controlled in the individual rooms. We had to endure cold and noise! Individual control is essential, so some serious work is overdue to change this system. There are only two ice machines, and one has been out of order for six months. Housekeeping is slacking, too. We had a large, beautiful spider web on our ceiling, and the sink drain needed to be professionally cleaned. The sheets are not large enough to stay in place. The beds are overdue for replacement -- and please don't go too soft!! We will not give up on the place, but hope that the owners take better care of it. The location is the best in town for theatregoers, and it's the least expensive of the Vintage Hotels. The bathrooms are excellent, and the towels luxurious. The reception staff try hard to please, but there is only so much they can do.
