We had to spend the night at the Crown Plaza when we missed our connection due to a problem with our first flight. The hotel is dated- if you want to feel like you're in 1993 this is the place for you. I would call the room "acceptably clean"- the sheets were clean, the carpet was clean, the bathroom was okay but the tub had some minor mildew around the faucet and the windows were filthy. The bed was okay and the pillows were very comfortable. Each time I used the stairwell it reeked of old and new cigarette smoke and there were butts everywhere.

The real issue we had was with the service. Front desk was very polite, and the server at breakfast the next morning was efficient and very polite. Room service and housekeeping was another story- when we ordered dinner both meals came with fries, but we were not brought ketchup. When we called down to ask for some, the front desk said they would get the kitchen to call us. As we were travelling with our infant son who was already asleep we asked them not to call and just relay the message that we wanted ketchup. They said they understood, but nonetheless 45 seconds later the kitchen called to inform us they were bringing ketchup, waking up our son. It took another 15 minutes for the ketchup to actually appear.

To make matters worse, housekeeping loudly knocked on our door not once, but twice that evening, looking for a different room, despite the fact our "do not disturb" sign was on the door handle. The woman had a particularly loud voice, and when my husband asked her to lower her voice to avoid waking our son, she seemed to get louder and more confused. If we weren't feeling so annoyed by our missed connection and the crummy hotel we were at, we would have laughed at how difficult providing ketchup and finding the right room IN THE HOTEL YOU WORK AT seemed to be for these people.

My advice is avoid this hotel, but as it seems to be several airline's top choice for pushing their customers past the point of "annoyed" to "this is the worst way to end a vacation", you may find yourself in the same predicament as we did. Good luck.

Room Tip: avoid every room

Dear Karseat,

Thank you for your detailed review. Your comments are extremely important to us. We are sorry that our Room Service and Housekeeping Service both interrupted your son's sleep even after mentioning that you did not want to be contacted via phone. Please know that we have shared your comments with our departments heads so that issues such as you experienced can be prevented moving forward. The evening you stayed, the hotel was 100% full and it is with regret that our occupancy did not allow us to accommodate you in one of our modern room categories. We really hope that you will give us another chance to make things right on a future stay.

We missed a connecting flight and were given a voucher by the airline to stay at this hotel. There were many others in the same boat and we all arrived together. The staff were very accommodating and processed all of us very quickly. The rooms were updated, clean and the beds were some of the most comfortable I have ever slept in. We also had room service and the good was excellent! It was also only a few minutes by their shutter to the airport so very convenient!

We missed our connecting flight so the airline put us up at the Crowne.

The hotel is very dated and it shows. It is due for an upgrade as more recent budget brands are much nicer in the area. We didn’t have a choice so it was what it was.

The room we had was small and the view was through a dirty window of other buildings. It was musty, the bed was old, just didn’t feel clean.

We tried using the meal vouchers from the airline but it does not include alcohol. Their wine by the glass was over priced and cheap on the amount of the pour. We had a glass on wine and decided to go to a restaurant nearby instead.

I did use the gym in the morning which had a few functional equipment for a workout. Once again, the equipment was dated but all I needed was a bench and some free weights which they had.

As long as the airlines fill their hotel with guests, I guess they don’t need to upgrade or do much other than be open. It’s just squeezing as much as they can get out of the hotel until it is sold or becomes an old age home.

Not a hotel I would book if I had a choice.

On the good side, their breakfast wasn’t too bad and we were allowed to use our airline voucher.

Dear ccriderYVR,

Thank you for leaving us your feedback after your unexpected stay. We are truly sorry that we failed to meet your expectations, from your room, the fitness room and the prices for wine in the bar. Rest assured that your comments have been shared with all of our department heads so that improvements can be made. The hotel will be undergoing renovation in the near future as we realize that certain standards and expectations need to be met. We hope you will come back to stay with us under better circumstances and after our renovations are complete.

No surprises here other than a hefty daily parking charge of $20. Rooms are clean and adequately sized. We were asked if we wanted a quiet room and and a quiet floor; the hotel gets a lot of kids sports teams. This was thoughtful and appreciated. Breakfast buffet is reasonably priced at $18. Hotel is 5 minutes from YYZ.

Dear winwolf56,

Thank you for your candid review. We are happy that you had an okay stay even though there was a sports team in house during the time you were with us. We are glad that our staff were able to accommodate you on our quiet floor. The hotel does offer rates that include parking or breakfast. So, based on your requirements, you can book to suit your needs. We hope that we can make your next stay a complete success.

Overall, the hotel is fine. I require WiFi for work. The WiFi did not work even after a dozen calls to have it fixed, as well as calls from my company. The hotel is on the approach path to Toronto Airport so there is constant aircraft, although the noise in the room is not bad. Promised a fridge in my room, but after a week of staying here and multiple calls, still no fridge even though it's required according to the terms the room was booked under. Rooms are small but generally well appointed and clean. The restaurant/bar was very overpriced and mediocre at best. The lack of Wifi and fridge could be understood for a day or two, but after a week it's not acceptable.

Dear advisetrip,

It is with regret that we were unable to fulfill your fridge request during your stay and that the Wi-Fi wasn't at it's greatest. Please note that we have shared your comments with our Management team in hopes that these two things can be improved for our future guests. Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback
