Did not stay at this hotel but visited the cocktail lounge for drinks before dinner. Expected good service and quality for a $15 dollar martini. On previous occasions service had been better. It took 10 min for one server to drop off a drink menu (which we didn't need) and run. A second server returned about 10 minutes later only to leave for another 10 min to ask if the bartender could make a cosmopolitan martini. Shockingly the answer was "no" however they could make a cosmo drink - go figure. Similar confusion over a request for a blood orange martini - even though they could make a blood orange margarita. We watched the bartender talk to patrons rather than mixing drinks. After just over 1/2 hr we got our 3 drinks with a $45 bill. Not once did the server say hi, apologize for the wait, or be friendly. The bill was dropped without a word nor were we asked if we would like another cocktail. We were friendly, polite and courteous but entirely disappointed. Montreal is my favourite place for great restaurants and service. This place is by far my worst experience and I would not even consider staying in the hotel.

We used 10,000 SPG points for a night at the W. They gave us a barrier-free room near the fire escape with windows looking into the atrium of an office building. I don't mean across the street; I mean looking right into the atrium. You could even see people's workstations from our room. Naturally, we drew the curtains during our entire stay. Because it was a barrier-free room, our bathroom looked nothing like the other photos with the glass wall and bathtub. We did ask about switching to a room with a street view but was told the hotel was full. Might be true; also true that we weren't "paying guests."

Other points about the property:
1. The location is pretty good, midway between downtown Montreal and old Montreal. There is a subway (metro) stop just right across the street
2. Valet parking is CDN $35 per night
3. Room is overall clean but basic. This year alone, I stayed at a number of Starwood properties in Asia, incl W Taipei, Westin Beijing (Chaoyang), Sheraton Shenzhen (Dameisha), etc. In comparison, this room is not at the same quality as the ones I have stayed in Asia. For example, no complimentary bottled water in room. You can pay $2 for a bottle of Fiji water they provide. No slippers provided, but there is bathrobe. Building materials are more basic. Of course, we may just be spoiled in Asia.
4. Wifi is free

Overall, decent hotel, but not luxury

Hello dear guest!

Thank you for sending us your feedback. We are glad to know you think location is pretty good.

I would like to assure you that room designation is made regardless of their booking source.
Only a few rooms offer an atrium view and we understand that you would have preferred an outside view. We do our best to accomodate our guests and to go above and beyond expectations.

I would like to have the chance to welcoming you again so you could experience the true meaning of Whatever Whenever. Don't hesitate to send me a private message to discuss further or prior to your next trip in Montreal!

Warmest regards,

Your W Montreal Manager

We spent 4 nights here and the hotel was great overall - convenient location to the metro and within walking distance of Old Montreal! Our room was huge, the bed was very comfortable, the shower was amazing, and we appreciated the upgrade and welcome gift. The lobby is also very cool, though the fountain near the elevators never did work during our stay. That said, our room looked into the interior courtyard, which is lit up with neon blue lights and is disorienting at night because they are kept so bright. Since our curtains did not shut properly at the edges, it was difficult to get our room dark. Every night we had to move furniture to pin the curtains shut enough to block some of the light. Next time we will request an exterior view room.

Just had a long weekend with friends in Montreal... stayed at the W Montreal. We booked the fantastic suite which was incredible... tons of windows, amazing bathroom, great location. The room was huge, great couches which let us hit the minibar and hang with our friends... and bed is truly awesome. The bars in the hotel were so cool... a great scene, not pretentious, just very cool. Loved the hotel... definitely the #2 best W out there (Santiago Chile is #1!). If you go to Montreal, stay here. btw - our friend got a massage and said the spa was great too.
