Description: Open for lunches 7 days and dinner Wednesday to Saturday, Black Barn Bistro is the perfect place to spend an hour or two absorbing the atmosphere of Wine Country. It is in the heart of the vineyard surrounded by vines and a table on the large generous veranda lets you look right out across the region. In warmer weather a courtyard covered by a canopy of grapes is also a perfect place to enjoy lunch and a glass of wine. The restaurant menu is light, fresh and delicious. There is an emphasis on freshly grown Hawkes Bay produce, the selection changes with the seasons. The bistro is available for private functions, evening and during the day, it is also the perfect venue for a very limited number of weddings, for bookings or enquiries please give us a call.

All six of us ordered lamb, which was cooked to perfection we also shared French fries dusted with sweet paprika. The wines from the vineyard here were also a great match; syrah, merlot/cabernet franc, even the barrel fermented chardonnay went well with or red meat dishes.
The wait wasn't long and the service was friendly and professional

Had a long lunch with friends on a Sunday. All of our food was excellent - started with the almonds then we shared the duck and salmon entrees (salmon was the favourite). For mains we had the fish, venison, lamb rack and sirloin with fries and duck fat roasted carrots. All of it was beautifully presented and delicious. Lamb rack my favourite but fish was amazing as well.

Desert was great as well - only one we didn't love was the apple one.

Service was great, as was the wine (started with a quick wine tasting then bought a few bottles). Make sure you book (busy busy!). We will be back.

We enjoyed a group lunch at Blackbarn. The food was perfect and the service very professional and friendly. The view from the outdoor area is incredible and we sat for a long time just admiring the countryside. The little shop is worth viewing as they have a good range of kitchen/homeware.

We have enjoyed the Black Barn for many years now, but this is the first time we have been there since the management changed, so it is hard to not compare it with previous visits.
As always, it is a magical environment, sitting outside under the vines on a Hawkes Bay Indian Summer day. My wife does not have a big appetite, so selected two entrees, the Beetroot salad, and the Slow-cooked egg. Both dishes were good, but not exceptional. I had a Duck Breast Entree, followed by a main of beef. Although the dish was well presented, and the flavours exceptional, I did have to report to the Maitre"d that the duck breast was tough.
My beef was beautifully cooked, and the service efficient and friendly, however we both felt the food lacked the Wow factor of previous visits.
All told though, a lovely place to dine.

Really beautiful spot looking over the vines.

Food and wine were delicious and the service was prompt and professional. I had the beetroot salad - beautifully presented and lovely flavors. Menu is very unique and very high quality. Highly recommend.
