“Great fresh buffet, but small selection. More parking in rear.”

We studied several different area Asian restaurants before going here. At first, it was crowded, but thinned out over time. The staff was very accommodating and due to the many patrons, there was a continuous supply of freshly cooked food. Unlike some restaurants out west, they called shrimp, shrimp and did not try to pass them off as prawns. The one "soup" seemed to be the same sauce used in Shrimp in Lobster Sauce at some Asian restaurants. However, even though the buffet was small, everything was deliciously prepared. The price was very reasonable for the area, and we learned that the further south you get from the casino/shopping areas, the less expensive the food.

The food is so delicious and each dish tastes distinct unlike the other oriental restaurants in the area where everything tastes the same. Humorously, there are signs posted throughout the restaurant stating that you can't take leftovers with you and the staff watches you like a hawk, assumably keeping food thieves at bay. LOL! It's that good. That being said, the building itself is shabby along with the furnishings. Could use a renovation.

At this little restaurant, it is apparent that the man at the register takes a lot of pride in making this place successful. The waitresses make sure you have everything you need, the small but flavorful buffet is well stocked and clean, and the atmosphere is calming.

We eat here every time we're in South Lake Tahoe. Food is fresh, varied and affordable in a place where prices overall for food can be high. Waitstaff is pleasant, attentive, no problem with parking or location at the "Y" (the Southern tip of the lake). Check it out.

I have had WONDERFUL experiences at the Kings Buffet in Carson City and so ... instead of driving 35 minutes I gave Hunan Garden a 'local' try.
For starters; not a single smile. Between the Cashier, seater and server - nothing but cold questions like - alone? Table OK ...
Second; they must not have a beer and wine.liquor license because I didn't see a single beer on any table, just softdrinks. Did the server ask me if I wanted anything - something? No .... water it is.
Third; the Sushi was "stale". You can tell by the rice. Fresh Sushi the rice is soft, theirs must have come out of the refrigerator. Aweful.
Fourth; I am a Salt & Pepper shrimp lover. The whole shrimp is cooked. Head, tail all of it and you can eat all of it. Theirs was tasteless. Well... there was a little salt on the shrimp but it did not measure up to anything special.
Fifth; the food selection was just plain ... greasy and mediocre. The best thing was the beans (with lots of garlic to hide whatever ....) and the fried rice. The presentation reflected more of a fly by night imbiss than a restaurant trying to get and keep repeat customers.
Sixth and final straw; their desserts are nothing more than pathetic. A few slices of apples, oranges and melon. Oh wait ... we have Jello as well.
Final analysis; the price 12.99 is equivalent to that of the Kings Buffet in Carson City. There you get a Sushi Chef working on your sushi. It's as fresh as it can be. There are clams of all types, there is a mongolian style buffet that you can have cooked, there are plenty of chinese style food options and the dessert table is about double of Hunan.
Sorry Hunan Garden, but this South Lake Tahoe local isn't coming back. You don't deserve my repeat business and by virtue of this review I hope to persuade others not to patronize you as well.
Major changes needed! Owners: go visit Kings Buffet in Carson City and enjoy a good meal.
