Description: Hotel Endsleigh dining room is a superbly stylish, historic spot on the edge of Dartmoor with unmatched views, the sister hotel of the superhot Tresanton in Cornwall. Hip designer Olga Polizzi has winningly brought the historic Grade I shooting and fishing lodge into the 21st century while honouring its Regency soul and it is run by her perfectionist daughter Alex Polizzi. The elegant wood-panelled dining room with the Duke of Bedford and friends family crests looks out onto the Humphrey Repton garden. Chef Christopher Dyke uses local and regional produce to devise his English menu complemented by a thoughtful international wine list. This is country house cool.

Was as expected delicious, if slightly different to what expected.
can't comment on normal menu as not ordered. But no doubt would be delicious, based on rest of experience.

It was a nice sunny day so we opted for tea on the terrace. Offer of tea or coffee to drink. we had one of each. First off the coffee was undrinkable. It was made in a caffetier but it was just awful. Changed to tea pretty quickly. There was no difficulty but no was interested as to why I wanted to change. The sandwiches were excellent as was expected but were very delicate and one needed a little extra. Further supplies were offered and taken. The cakes were on a self service table as too were the cream and scones and jam. No limit to what was had and an opportunity to try a variety of lovely cakes. Scones were quite special. Just go there and try them. Staff were courteous and some were quite natural and friendly. The grounds were at there best and a nice walk around them after tea was welcome. The whole thing though good was somewhat expensive, forty four pounds for 2 people. OK for a special but not too often for normally paid people.

Lunch outside on the patio was, as ever, a lovely way to spend the afternoon. The gardens are immaculate and the hotel beautifully maintained. Highlight of the food was the whipped goats cheese and pear starter - such delicate flavours and very pretty on the plate. The risotto was delicious too, all served by very attentive staff. The Endsleigh is a class act but at the same time a place that is relaxed where guests are made to feel at home.

I came here with my parents to celebrate their wedding anniversary. We also chose
this hotel because they are dog friendly and we wanted our dachshund to accompany us. I am gluten free so I mentioned this when booking to give them enough notice. The way they do afternoon tea here is it starts at 3.30 and you can either sit inside or outside with the stunning views of the gardens. They bring your drinks and sandwiches to your table and then you can go and help yourself to scones, jam, cream and many other desserts laid out at a table in the library. We arrived early so went for a short walk around the gardens first and then settled down at the only free table on the terrace. It was very busy but the service was efficient and friendly. They brought me all my food separately because of the gluten aspect. The sandwiches were delicious and there was a good choice. The desserts were splendid - again lots to choose from so we tried a little bit of everything. More people continued to arrive so they set up additional tables and chairs outside. Whilst it did rain a bit, they put the sun umbrellas up to keep the worst of it off and it was only passing showers. The table in the library was kept well supplied and staff remained attentive throughout the visit. All in all, it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and very decently priced for £22 each. We cheekily asked to take home doggy bags of the desserts we couldn’t eat and they happily obliged. Beautiful setting, fabulous tea and food, relaxing atmosphere, attentive staff - what more could you ask for in an afternoon? Highly recommended, will be coming here again.
