“Beautifully built Temple”
Review of Wat Asokaram

Wat Asokaram
Reviewed 6 May 2016

This is a very beautifully built temple who is obviously designed by someone who is into buddhism. The surroundings are also very nice and scenic. A temple worth visiting if you are a buddhism believer.

Minas Tirith! Haha... This shrine reminds me about that Minas Tirith bastion in Legend of the Ring movie.

The location: Samut Prakan, south of Bangkok, Thailand.

This beautiful shrine is a newer shrine compared to other shrine in Thailand, but it is located in an ancient kingdom site.

Traveling to Wat Asokaram, you will pass two beautiful shrines, the Erawan Museum (the three-headed elephant) and Gigantic Gold Standing Buddha on the side of the river in Samut Prakan. So if you go here, you will see all of those.

Taxi driver normally pronounce it as Wat Asok. It is located in a large compound. There are other beautiful shrines in the same compound. There are at least four sites in this compound:
1. The white shrine
2. The shrine in front of the white shrine
3. The shrine near the main compound (at the entrance, it's a green one)
4. The statute of king and lions.

All of them are beautiful. But the most interesting at this shrines are the statues of monks. They are like the Museum Tussaud of monks, in life size.

Make sure you follow the rules when entering these shrines, and respect the monks and the other visitors. I think this is the place where Buddhist pay homage to their great monks. Camera is allowed but you need to be careful with your steps. Monks at the shrines will always monitor your steps if you are too close to some forbidden area.

HOW TO GET HERE:
- Go by BTS (Sky Train) to Bearing. That is the last station in the southern end of BTS route.
- Flag a taxi (please be careful, I always go with green-yellow taxi in Bangkok and pay the meter with a decent tips around 20-30 bath, tips more if you want him to wait for you.)
- Bring a map with you, and if you can, write down the address and bring a picture with you. Say this to the taxi driver: WAT ASOK - SAMUT PRAKAN.
- Taxi fare from Bearing BTS Station to Wat Asok is roughly 100-150 bath. I cannot be accurate on this because I travel around to see other sites.
- GO BACK with taxi to the Bearing station to go back to the Bangkok downtown.
- You may have a brief traffic jam, because there are extension of BTS route in this area.

Have a nice trip. Always be safe. :)
