Review of The Eels Foot Inn

The Eels Foot Inn
Ranked #1 of 2 Restaurants in Eastbridge
Certificate of Excellence
Description: Landlord Julian Wallis and his team welcome you to this traditional inn . The Eel's Foot nestles in the pretty hamlet of Eastbridge in the heart of the Heritage Coast and on the doorstep of RSPB Minsmere Reserve. We are fortunate to be part of the Adnams 'Golden Triangle' in close proximity to Aldeburgh, Dunwich and Southwold. For lovers of Music and the Arts, The Eel's Foot Inn is just a short hop from Snape Maltings home to the world famous Concert Hall operated by Aldeburgh Music. Also Henham Park, the venue for 'Latitude.' A spectacular festival for the performing arts featuring incredible talent in music, theatre, comedy, literature, poetry and cabaret. Very much a family friendly event! Our location is popular with walkers, cyclists, bird watchers and holidaymakers. We have recently incorporated at the pub 'Eastbridge Cycle Hire Company' with a good supply of mountain bikes available to hire at competitive daily and weekly rates. The freshwater marshes bordering the Inn afford plenty of opportunity for watching an abundance of birds and butterflies. A bridleway leads you through scenic countryside directly to the sea, a comfortable walk of less than an hour, linking to the Suffolk Coastal Path and Dunwich to the north. Footpaths lead you along the riverside and through woodlands where large numbers of red deer gather for the annual 'rut' in October. A wonderful opportunity to witness the stags posturing, bellowing and if you are lucky clashing their antlers! Back at the Eel's Foot you can enjoy Adnams Cask Ales and wines or sample a glass of Suffolk Aspalls Cyder and while away an afternoon counting the resident chickens (not an easy task after a pint or two of Adnams!) Our play equipment in the shape of a 'Traction Engine' should keep your little and bigger ones entertained. We serve full meals and lighter options, and try to source as much as we can locally with: fresh fish from Lowestoft, fresh fruit and vegetables from Suffolk farms, meat from Peasenhall and bread from Saxmundham. Even our delicious ice-cream is locally made! As a pub we have made a conscious decision not to take table bookings mainly due to the flow of walkers and birders who don't like to be tied to a set time for food. We will however always feed you even of you may have to wait a short time for a table. For those wishing to stay a while we have six, large comfortable ensuite bedrooms all with flat screen televisions and contemporary, stylish, country style decor. One of the rooms has wheelchair access and we can accommodate families in our two family rooms. We can also arrange bed and breakfast for dogs at nearby kennels or, for well behaved animals we will be happy to accommodate them for a minimal fee. Our extensive gardens and patio areas are the ideal spot for a little lazyman's bird watching. If your lucky you can see barn owls quartering the surrounding marshes, otters playing in the dyke along side the caravan park and marsh harriers sky-dancing over the reed-beds! The Eel's Foot has a long tradition of Folk Music and musicians still gather on a Thursday evening for a jam session. The locals call it 'Squit Night' and it attracts musicians from near and far. Guitars, banjos, concertinas and even the bagpipes can sometimes be heard and enjoyed as they play together in harmony! For a more Traditional Folk experience come along on the last Sunday of the month when a local folk club meet, and join in the chorus of an old sea shanty or two.Nd walks due to being on the edge of R.S.P.B. Minsmere and only a mile and a half walk to the sea. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside, marshland and woods. Our letting accommodation is of a very high standard, six large letting rooms, all en suite at highly competitive prices.

We visited on a very busy Saturday evening whilst staying locally. Despite this, our food was served very quickly. The Portobello and Halloumi veggie burgers were excellent, the best I've had. Delicious hand cut chips also.
The pub has bags of character and a huge garden with play area for the kids. Good variety of well kept Adnams ales.
We will be back!

Evening meal, nice and relaxed, lots of choice on menu. Great food and friendly service. I had surloin steak with chips and salad which was very tasty. I didn't have room for pud.

Had lunch at this pub twice now. The food is good, the beer excellent and reasonably priced. Good atmosphere, very friendly in a good location for walking. Very close to Minsmere. It does have accommodation but have yet to stay there. We may in the future!!

My daughter took me for lunch as a treat, she has been here a few times and wanted to show me how nice it was and how good the food is. I must say its a fabulous location, lovely garden for the kids but on this occasion was let down by the food...
We ordered a BLT and a smoked salmon and cream cheese baguette on white and an avocado and crayfish on granary, together with a kids ham sandwich and 2 portions of chips. Both the white baguettes were practically inedible and the granary was little better (the chips and the sandwich were lovely) i can only surmise that as we were early maybe they were the day before's as we saw several later diners eating without issue... my daughter did mention this when she went to pay and it would have been fairly obvious when they were collected as most of the bread was still on the plates!
I am not one to complain and please dont let this put you off this lovely little pub, in fact im looking forward to returning with my husband soon and as my daughter has had really good meals here lets just hope it was a one off!
