Description: The Brace of Pheasants is already listed as a hotel, but I would like to write a review of the bar and restaurant. Should this therefore be a separate entry?

Pretty thatched pub in the small hamlet of Plush in a remote and attractive part of Dorset. Superb walking country and a welcome stop on a long walk. We only had bar snacks but they were very good and the landlady was very friendly. Good pint of beer and a roaring fore to dry out our wet clothes as well as being dog friendly. Just how a pub should be.

meeting friends for lunch and oh dear, we must have picked an "off day " : 2 of us were served greyish, poorly-cooked fish which looked neither fresh nor appealing and which was not improved by a return to the kitchen and therefore refused. fortunately the chips were very good, as was the complimentary dessert. The other 2 mains were acceptable and the service was friendly, but the overall experience was poor , in no way did the restaurant live up to its reviews.

Stayed for a few days, staff very pleasant and food excellent. Quite odd first day we had 2 packs of biscuits on tea tray in room, second day 1 packet, third day none. Breakfast was freshly cooked but only one piece of toast per person was provided so you had that with your cooked meal or with jam. Evening meals in bar lovely with very nice, friendly staff..

I visited this restaurant with my wife and son last weekend, the food and service was superb! Although they did not have a set children's menu they offered smaller portions from the main menu and were happy to make slight alterations. We were too full for dessert but the desserts on offer looked very good and we would certainly save room for one next time!

We arranged to meet our friends at the Brace of Pheasants country Pub and Hotel on a very cold January day. We met at 12.30 and were greeted by an atmosphere of an old but cosy pub with a fire going. The carpet throughout was of a tartan weave and added to the ambiance. The bar had a choice of local Dorset ciders and Ales and a very wide stock of wines.

The menu was comprehensive and imaginative and the specials board had a mixture of pheasant and venison meals ! The lady in charge was very helpful, informative and cheerful. The pub welcomes dogs and walkers and is in an area of outstanding beauty centred on the little village of Plush.

Needless to say that the beverages were brilliant and the food delightful, and the whole experience was excellent. Originally we discovered the Brace of Pheasants by accident, only having time for a brief drink. We are so glad we went back for this lunchtime get together and will definitely be returning, maybe to stay in one of the rooms for a couple of days !

Highly commended.
