I'm writing this while staying at the hotel Dernbachtal which has been a delightful experience.

This small 12 room hotel is beautifully appointed and was recently refurbished with German wood features throughout to an extremely high standard. The rooms are large and the superior room we have stayed in has a kitchenette, outside terrace and a seating area with table, settee and armchair.

A generous buffet breakfast was included for a very reasonable €109 per night.

We wished we had been able to stay longer !

Room Tip: Go for a superior room, well worth the small premium on the price.

This is a charming hotel. The rooms are lovely and are very large with sitting areas and outside decks or patios (ground floor rooms). The bathrooms are small, but have a reasonable size shower and some shelf space. The gardens seemed pretty from the photos but we were there just at the end of the season. Basically it is sort of rustic in some ways... an out of the way retreat. The restaurant is supposed to be one of the best in the region, but closed the day before we arrived. Breakfast was very good. There was one staff member (only two rooms were occupied as it was the end of the season) and he took care of us very well. The hotel is quite close to several special areas including the wine region and the town of Landau. The town of Dernbach will celebrate its 850th birthday in 2014 so special things should be happening.

Room Tip: We liked our first floor room which was large with an additional seating area. Access right out the door to a patio and the garden
