Bad news first: rooms are pretty basic, beds a little old, bathrooms tiny and reception sullen. Good news: located right in the heart of the town, garden and pool area pretty and peaceful and the food was good. The bar nearby plays loud music but not late. The town is undergoing change: new sidewalks, new sewer system, etc. The variety of people walking by you in the town is a trip: multiple-layered clothing for the Hererro versus the topless Himba. The Lodge did not recommend us walking around town after dark. Safety issues. But the best part of our stay was a visit to a nearby Himba village by one the staff - Bistris. He was excellent. We arrived in an afternoon and asked about a tour the next morning...and he was willing. He charged us N400. We first went to the nearby supermarket to buy provisions (spent about N250) and then headed out - in our own vehicle - with Bitris to the Himba village. Just the three of us. Great experience. About 1 1/2 hours in the village. Worth the long ride to and from Opuwo. This is definitely a one night town. Just lower your expectations when spending the night here.

this is a great place for those who wish to avoid to 15-20USD per night guest homes but who shy away from the $150 per night opuwo country lodge. breakfast was excellent, the green grass in the middle of the compound and the swimming pool and shaded eating area added up to make this very pleasant. rooms had good working AC and good hot water, and the internet was surprisingly good. i loved this place. stayed four nights. went to opuwo lodge almost every night for dinner, but so glad to have stayed at ohakene for lodging. (dinners not available at ohakene, but breakfast was.)

We went to Opuwo just to be able to meet the Himba people and Ohakane Lodge made that possible for us. They called a guide named Petros who knows the villages and speaks the language, and he was great in leading us through the whole experience and making it very easy and comfortable for both parts. Opus is a dusty little town that doesn't have much else to offer, but it's quite interesting to walk its streets though, you meet all sorts of beautiful people representing various cultural groups and they are all very friendly.

As for the accommodation itself, it's a quiet and comfortable place (they told us it could get noisy in the club next door but it never did, maybe because of the low season...). The staff was very nice and the food quite good, with a homely feeling. Good value for money.

Nice clean and simple - centrally located! Friendly service and good meals. I especially enjoyed glass of wine at the lapa by the sparkling pool and good fresh coffee before day's adventure into Kaokoland and home of Himba people. Lodge provides laundry service and tours to local villages.

Room Tip: All rooms are situated in the courtyard of the lodge facing swimming pool. In winter months I would suggest more sunny room.

We had the pleasureof spending 4 nights at Ohakane Lodge last month and were treated exceptionally well by all the staff. Everyone made a special effort to make us feel at home. Meals were tasty and well presented. The rooms are spacious offering comfortable beds,DSTV and Aircon. Showers were always piping hot.We did not use the pool, as it is still too cold but it offered a fabulous ambience for sundowners. The complex has safe parking for your motor vehicle offering all night security. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you to everyone.
